Default 6" .22LR Revolver: Model and date of manufacture?

I have a 6" S & W .22LR adjustable sight revolver that has been in my family for many years. It is a 5 screw, #K1354XX. I was told it is a K22 but I would like to know the correct model designation and year of manufacture. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Manufacturing:
K104,048 – K136,690...1951

It could have been shipped from the factory a little later.

It is a K-22 Masterpiece (or second model), intended mainly for target shooting, built on the same K-frame as the S&W Military and Police (M&P) revolver which has been manufactured since 1899. In good condition, these are desirable revolvers.

There were a few second model K-22s made prior to WWII, but most were manufactured after WWII, starting in late 1946, incorporating some postwar design improvements. In 1957, S&W adopted a new a model numbering system, at which time the K-22 became a Model 17. 6" was the standard barrel length. Your stocks appear to be correct, and should have a matching serial number stamped on the back surface of the right panel. Take care that the grips are never separated from the revolver, as they add to its value.

Welcome to the forum!

You have a nice looking K22 Target Masterpiece, also know as a pre-17. It was probably shipped in 1951 but the only way to know for certain is to get a factory letter.

Yes, K22 Masterpiece ("Target" was never part of official designation although often used) probably from early 1952. Becomes Model 17 in 1957. Very nice.

Lets call it a post war K22 Masterpiece. Lets not call it a 2nd model. If you need to call it by the model, call it a 3rd model K22. There's a huge difference between the 2nd and the 3rd model K22. The value is maybe 10x as much on the prewar guns.
