I would imagine a lot of these were made for the lend-lease going to England. It probably didn't make the trip.

Like tlay said, some of the .38-200 S&W cal guns stayed stateside. Also, a lanyard ring was always an option that could be special ordered.

You can't assume it didn't make the trip. Lend-Lease had not fully kicked in by the time this one had been made (probably August 41 or thereabouts), and it probably wouldn't have the United States Property stamping yet. In .38 S&W, it would almost certainly would have had the lanyard ring attached.

I observed one exactly like it not long ago. It was in the 770,000 S/N range. It did have the P proof mark on the butt, but there were no British, Canadian, S. African, New Zealand, U.S. Property or other markings anywhere on it that would have indicated foreign ownership. The finish was original.
