I have looked at numerous posting about the 1899 Model 10 or 38 Mil and I am still confused on dating the revolver I got from my Grandfather. I believe it is a 1902, the last patent date is Dec 17th 1901. The serial number is 25584. It came with a box of old 38 Long Colt ammunition. An help would be appreciated.It also cam with a leather holster that is open at the trigger.

It is a Model of 1902 Military revolver, from 1902-03. That revolver will accept either .38 Long Colt ammunition (the standard U. S. military service revolver cartridge of the day) or .38 S&W Special. If you shoot it, it's recommended you shoot .38 Special wadcutter target loads. These are interesting and historic revolvers, and not too common. Your ammunition box could have some collectible value also.

I have a revolver just like yours markings and all. Sn.66811. I guess we know now at least two of these particularly marked guns survived to modern times.

SN 66811 (if in .38 Special) would have been from later, probably 1905. If it has a square butt, it would be a Model of 1905. With a round butt, some would call it a Model of 1902. I'm not going into that nomenclature issue here as it raises passions.
