Default Price check four inch, four screw Model 28

Looks to be NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards "excellent"; original finish; mechanically sound; original numbered diamond magnas in good shape; includes box, slightly worn -- unclear as of yet if original to gun; tools and docs reportedly included, though same question as box.

What approximates market value these days?

That's a tough question as prices vary by location and condition. The Model 28's have gone up a lot in the past 3 years and the 4 inch costs more than the 6 inch. If it was all correct and in excellent condition I would say at least $650. Without the box, tool, and paperwork $575.

A 4 screw 28 no dash with box tools and docs is a little low at 575-650 in my opinion . The 28-2 N serial go for 650-700.

I would say 800 with box and docs.

I saw jjbrewst is right on. 95% with box docs may fetch north of $800. I know I would pay $800 for the package.

If I was anywhere near the vicinity of this gun, and everything checked out on it, I'd hear it calling my name.

I'd answer, too. $800-$850 would not be considered unreasonable for this gun around here.

The tools, by the way, are sort of a moot point with me. You see original tools offered for sale on GB and eBay, and there's really no way to tie them directly to any particular revolver.

For the revolver as you describe it wit box, $800 would be a bargain around here.

Agreed but unable at present. Suffice that the NRA MGCS rating of "excellent" puts the finish in the 98% or better range.

Agreed. About the best can be done is check the tools for period and model correctness where it applies.

Frankly, the emergence of fake, factory correct looking stickers for some eras' boxes is starting to make boxes irrelevant to me, too.

Agreed! It's happening with Colt boxes now. A guy out of Sparta,TN is selling them on Ebay and GB as original boxes, with all paperwork. Funny thing is, he has sold 118 and has 9 available for sale! That's a lot of "original" boxes!

I've got a 4", 28-2….early 70's…..matching box, grips….with tools and paperwork….N serial number……unfired except factory…….it would take a bit north of $800.00 for me to let go of it.

And if you ever did decide to sell, you'd be wise to hold out until the price went north of $900. I saw one on GB, or maybe it was GI, that was similar to what you have. It went for $1150. Plus shipping! Plus whatever the transfer fee was when the buyer took possession of the gun. I'm betting the buyer had $1200+ in it before the transaction was finished.

I'm thinking quite a bit north……but it doesn't take up much space in my safe…..so, and I'm always looking for more just like it.

I paid top dollar for a 6" Pre 28 a few weeks ago. It's in 98+% and I didn't hesitate. It stayed under four figures but I might have to keep it a year to get my money back.

As long as we are posting want ads, I'd like a 4 inch 1955 to go with my 6 inch!

We don't really think of it as "posting want ads". We sorta call it "daydreaming" or "fantasizing".

My son has been a great help to me for the past month and continues to be a rock I can lean on, because he will end up with my accumulation some day any way, I gave him the 4" HP S121394 for his birthday last week. It still lives here with it's brothers so it's not like I lost any thing and I get to see him enjoy HIS 5 screw HP (the one on the left).

Beautiful revolvers. I have actually never seen (in person) a 5-Screw 28. Never even run across one at a gun show, and I go to a lot of gun shows.

Is there room in your household for another son? I'm old and settled in my ways and don't take up much room. I'm housebroken, too, and can buy my own groceries.

Well, I can't help you with the "in person" . But here are a couple of pictures to tide you over until Mick whips out his Model 28-1 .

And, here's one I enhanced so you could see the trigger and upper sideplate screws.
