Default My 1930 to 1940 N-frame Wheel-of-S&W's

After drooling all over 1Aspenhill's HD website and reading his HD threads, I bought my first HD in May of last year. It was also my first pre war N-frame (besides my 1917). It was a 5" factory nickel gun and once I got it, it was love at first sight!
Since then, seven more pre war N-frames have made their way into my safe: two Registered Magnums, two 38/44 Outdoorsman, and three more Heavy Duties. Six of those seven guns came from S&W Forum members, just more proof that this Forum helps fuel the addiction
I never thought to do a wheel of S&W until one of the members here (he sold me one of the HD's) gave me the idea to do it. I positioned the guns clockwise in order of ship date starting with the 5" Heavy Duty at 12:00 that shipped on April 14th, 1930 to the 4" Heavy Duty to its' left that shipped April 4th, 1940 - almost exactly 10 years apart.

Not at all!!
It's just that the lanyard ring would have thrown everything off symmetrically

Rick,
Nice display. Although these are the same model, I am partial to it!

WOW Nice collection guys. That's why there isn't too many out there for us.
Just kidding.

My question was there different barrel lengths in the 38/44 HD besides 4"?

I'm confused when the 38/44 HD is 4" that we mainly see pictures the we see the 38/44 outdoorsman with what looks like a 6" barrel. I know these are two different handguns well models of the 38/44.

Now our Godfather of handgun hunting, one of them, Elmer Keith started out with the 38/44? Or did he help design it too?

I'm looking to see if Elmer had a special personal connection to the 38/44?

The HD came in 4, 5, and 6.5 inch barrels. Elmer was involved in the cartridge development.

Wetdog beat me to my initial comment thought. Both of these displays are enough to make a man weak in the knees and longing for the next gun show or LGS trip. Unfortunately the pickins around here have been slim lately and the ole interweb and its crazy prices are the only outlet for us snowbound addicts.

Does anyone make a listing of little old widow ladies?

It would be really nice in the man cave, workshop, or on the loading bench to have a really classy gun calendar of some of the finest firearms of all time. This could be several calendars, one for rifles, one for handguns, one for revolvers, one for vintage of each the prevoius, and finally one for tactical guns, Wow... this could go on forever...LOL But don't you think it would be really nice?

And the wheel of guns would be a prime example of how to start. Anyone know of any calendars like this and where to find them?
