I had one years ago and would like to have one again. What should i look for? any heat treat problems on these? Whats the original finish anyway? I see blue and parkerized and everything between, mine was blued but worn bad but i'd say it looked better then most you see now. thanks.
All M1917 revolver cylinders were heat treated because of the higher pressure of the .45 ACP round. All M1917's were originally blued, but some that remained in government inventory were arsenal refinished by Parkerizing or some other phosphate finish between the wars. None of the military guns built during WWI have the hammer blocking safety that was patented in 1914.
Thanks Tom, that's the kind of info i needed. I travel a lot for work in the summer and hopefully will find some decent guns. I passed up two today from the same seller neither were 70% finish and $1200 apiece
