Acquiring consecutive numbers that weren't even in the same shipment is a rare feat. Congratulations.

Congrats Bill. I had my eye on that one, but I'm happy you ended up with it. Well done, Sir.

Wonderful additions to your collection, Bill! Six and a half-inch HD's are just flat uncommon, … having consecutively numbered 6.5's from different shipments is DAMNED uncommon! Congrats, and I also think your find is special because HDs bored to the .357 cartridge are often thought of as runts of the litter. I think they're an interesting historic record of how hard it was to find early .357s - and the measures that regular folks resorted to to own one. Thanks Much,
Jerry

Outstanding addition to your HD collection. You need to bring them to the OGCA display show in May. What a great find!

Bill,
You must be living right to have been able to get not only one of those rare & collectable Heavy Duty's; but to be able to get two of them, especially numbered consecutively to one another, is remarkable.
Those two guns stand tall as a collection all by themselves.
Congratulations!
Tom

Bill:
As usual, you put us all to shame by pulling two old consecutive HDs together after all these decades.
Congratulations on a great find!!

Those are sure some nice examples. I am really impressed at how well that look together.
It always impresses me how they can be around so long and not get more heavily used.

Thanks Pete, the picture of Dave Cook's store is in the 1940-50 era when the gun was shipped there!

I was able to find pictures of where my Registered was delivered. I even chased up pictures of the original owner. Some day I should turn them into a journal article.
I was thinking this set would and your pictures would make a nice journal article also.
Keep up the great work.

Thank you. I missed it the first go round. We so often hear how close numbers could ship years apart that I began to accept that as normal. These two are the exception and exceptional!

Since I posted this I have done more research on this particular model. There were a total of 95ea 6.5" Transition Heavy Duties made between June and September 1946. They were shipped between July 1946 and March 1947 and are serial numbered between S62490 and S63290. There weren't any other transition 6.5" Heavy Duties made, so one can see how rare one of these truly is! The first 6.5" Model of 1950 38/44 Heavy Duty that I have in my database is in the S85000 range! Total 38/44 6.5" that I have serial numbers for are 302ea but that does not count the LEO orders that I know the total in the order but do not have all the serial numbers. I think it would push the total close to or over 400. So, I hope you enjoy these and the update!
