1917 Civilian DA45
I have a civilian version of the S&W 1917 .45 acp service revolver and would like to know how rare they are?
Mine is all matching numbers, replacement stocks, reblued over some scattered pitting, fully functional, and some light pitting in the barrel with prominant rifling.
I know its in the shooter category so its not nearly as collectable, but one of the books I was looking at rated a 10% at around $800. This seems high to me.
I paid $375.
Pictures coming.

The pre-war commercial version of the 1917 is relatively rare. In high condition, they sell in the $2000 +/- range. We need some pictures and the SN of the gun taken from the butt. You can XX out the last two or three digits. I would expect a shooter grade commercial 1917 to bring more than you paid. While we wait, I'll share a picture of mine.

$375 is a great price for any commercial 1917 if in shootable condition. Actually, S&W sold these up until 1949.

Could you post a picture of the left side? It is pre-war probably shipped in the early '30s. My SN is 181XXX and it shipped in July 1932.

A star means it went back to S&W for work. Could be the cylinder was replaced.

Ok, it was added. I rarely go back to the top of a thread.
