Default 1917 .45 ball detent on yoke ?

Have a 1937 Brazillian . Pulled the cylinder/yoke assy and noticed a spring loaded ball embeded in the yoke pin and corresponding detent in the frame that apparently holds pressure on the yoke in the swung out or open position .

Question - is this a normal feature on all older n frame Smiths ?

-------------and also on pre-war K frames, but they stopped using them on K frames several years earlier. And if memory serves, they're also on the post-war Transitional 357 Magnum---and having said that, I'd guess they are to be found on other transitional N frames---none of which I can name without looking in a book.

Welcome to the Forum.

It is actually a spring loaded short piece of steel rod with a rounded end, rather than a ball.

Be careful! Sometimes they pop out and are lost forever. Other times, they are completely stuck.

Default Cyl Crane/Yoke Detent

Took the time over the weekend to see if any of my other Smiths have this feature.
.38 hand Ejector sn 92813 does have it. (4" round butt)
.357 Mag sn S 159316 (5" spec ordered red insert Baughman ramp and white outline rear) does NOT have it.

The "pin" on the .38 is frozen and will not move. Gave it a drop of Kroil .
Thanks Again for the info.
Bob
