Default .32 Long Identification Assistance Pls

My aunt gave me a S&W .32 long revolver that her first husband bought her many years ago. I don't find a model number on it anywhere. It is still in the original mint condition box wrapped in Nox-Rust Vapor Wrapper. The box is marked Smith & Wesson Hand - 32 - Ejector Blued - 4 INCH. The revolver has very light marks on the cylinder from rotating the cylinder. It looks as if it has seen very little use. She told me they took it out shooting several times. The inside of the box bottom has a date of April 15, 1955. The serial number is 6712XX. Any assistance in identifying the gun and it's approximate value is appreciated. I have no plans to sell it, I would just like to know for insurance purposes.
Thanks!
William

p.s. I can post some pics if it will help.

Pictures would be nice I'd say the 1955 dating is not that far off, probably a pre-Model 30.

Very nice to have one compete with the box and paper. Did you open the yoke to see if there was a model number stamped on the frame? (MOD. XX)? It could be a little later than 1955, possibly as late as 1957-59.

This is the best shot I could get. I shot thru a magnifying glass with a macro setting so what looks like scratches is dust on my magnifying glass. I hope it is readable.

That's a beautiful gun and 'package'.

As the box says, it's official Model is ".32 Hand Ejector".
Built on the obsolete Model of 1953 New I frame.
After the order for Model numbers in mid 1957, it was designated the Model 30, hence the collector term 'pre model'.

$500 to $600.

Thank you all for the helpful response! I have cleaned it thoroughly, oiled it and locked it in my safe where it will stay until it's my time to go!

One just before your sn was shipped in 1957 and one just after was shipped in 1958. Both were Pre-Models.

I would believe that in this condition in the original box with tools and docs that it would bring $700 to $750. Very nice pre-30! Do yourself a favor and buy some Renasance wax and go over the entire gun including the grips. This will help protect it.

Johnson's Paste Wax also works fine. I've used it for many years.

Default Photo update

Update of note: On a recent visit back to my aunt, we found this box of ammo. It's a full box and does not appear to have ever been opened. It goes in the safe with the pistol.

You may want to hang on to that ammo. It might be worth some to the guys who collect it. Is it a full box?

It's a beautiful gun with the original box, and a period box of ammo - we S & W collectors get a little crazy when we see something like this. Don't be surprised to see your e-mail inbox with a few "want to sell it?" offers . Enjoy (and don't sell)!

That package will make a very nice "pass it along" when the time comes. Thanks for showing it to us.

I also agree with murphydog, that will have pushed a few guys "want" buttons here. LOL
