Default Triple Lock Factory Nickel 4"

I held one today and all I can say it the lock up was solid and the fit was very nice.

I saw the letter and it left the factory with a nickel finish, 4" barrel and walnut gold medallion grips in 1917.

The owner of the gun wants to sell but did not know a price since there was so few made.

I thought I would try and help out.

Can any experts here give a direction or an expired auction of one that has sold in the recent past.

WOW!!! That's a neat gun! I think they sold new for $21.00, I'll go $20.00 since it's used

I have no idea what a fair price would be. The one I've got cost me $1250 about 2 years ago. Its in pretty good condition, and I like it. I thought it was a fair price. I have no idea what one would sell for on the open market.

I've seen more nickel guns for sale than blue. That has no bearing on relative value. Rumor (and its all we have to live with) is that about 10% of the guns were produced in nickel with the rest blue. I've never seen anything I think is reliable as to the numbers by barrel length. I think the long barrel guns, like 6 1/2 are by far the most common. Few of the real long like 7 1/2. Some 5" guns floating around. The other big divider is the caliber. I've had a 44-40. The vast majority are 44 Specials.

Wish I could tell you a firm dollar value.

Is the pictured gun the one in question? That looks in nice condition.

Were the patents on the side unique to 4" barrels or did the 5"s have them as well?

I'm really curious about the price too.

On the examples I have seen patent dates were only on side of 4" bbls.
5", 6.5", and 7.5" bbls had patent dates on top.

Is the one posted a .44 special?

Hi
for what it is worth I bought the one I have about 4 years ago it is in 96% original condition shipped in 1916. I can not remember the exact amount but it was in the
high 3000 range and was glad to get it.

Out of the 108 T Locks I put together I found that the 7 1/2" standard
the hardest to find and the 5" would be next then the 4".
How did you get Roy to dig out the numbers made I never saw that information? You are certain that there were only 100 Nickel 4" made.

Larry
When you are talking hardest to find are you talking just nickel or barrel length.
there are a very small number of factory nickel 4 inch models.
a lot of the 4 inch models have been refinished in nickel from blue.
these won't letter
How many nickel factory lettered 4 inch did you have in your 108.

I purchased mine in 2010 for $1100 and it lettered as factory nickel, but consensus here was that it was refinished, but some doubt remained. The letter stated that the grips on the gun are from the 30s and 'may have been installed when the revolver was refinished'. Either way, hope this helps. Also shipped in 1916.

I was thinking between $2,500 to $3,000 to a collector who has a gap for one in his collection. I'd auction it with a start of $2,500 with a reserve of $3,000 and let it fly. The prices are climbing you could be at the right place at the right time.

I also noticed that the Nickel T Locks do not have an N on the frame under the grip. The blue ones do have a B.
