Default Ever buy a gun because of the grips?

Stopped by one of my LGS and the owner pulled this old relic. I looked it all over and kept going back to the stocks, those round butt gold S&W monograms were just talking to me! Price for the gun was what I would have paid for the stocks.

.38 M&P model of 1905 - 4th change 6" barrel round butt blued finish. Everything numbers correct even those pretty little grips. Enjoy!!

Yes. Yes I have.

The thing that first attracted me to this was the stocks:

Yes I did buy one for the stocks, but it wasn't a S&W. Late last year, I bought a mid-1960s Colt OMM for more than I normally would have, but only because it sported a set of perfect (but incorrect for the gun) pair of Gen 1 fully-checkered target grips. If I put them on eBay, I have no doubt they would bring at least $400. But I have no plans to do that.

Yep. Just recently bought a used Ruger Single-Six Convertible mainly for the custom grips on it. I had in mind to buy a new one in stainless, but this older blued one with the custom grips (which I couldn't find elsewhere) just spoke to me. No regrets!

This one. A Colt Official Police with added Micro sights. My first pair of Roper grips and it turned out to be a great shooter.
Last week I bought a Model 29 with a pair of Cokes but it haven't gotten it cleaned up yet so no pics for now.

I have. Last year I bought a first year production pre-27 with
a 3.5" bbl., with factory nickel finish. It didn't have the original
diamond magnas. I happened to find a 38/44 HD model of 1950
on GB several weeks later that had a set of beautiful aged ivory
magnas. I bought the HD and harvested the grips for my pre-
27. I then sold the HD.

My nickel pre-27 is pictured in my Avatar.

I acquired this 1950 Target 45 (shipped in 1950) primarily because it has what is most likely the first pair of target stocks made by S&W for an N-frame revolver and was shipped in a box (appropriately labeled) originally made for a pre-WW II ".357" Magnum as it would not fit in a standard box because of the "oversize" stocks.

I've bought several guns without the grips to get the price down. I want a package that fits my hand for use.

I once bought a gun because it had a set of Farrant grips on it. It also had the originals with it.
Also, I bought a new old stock Bianchi holster that had not been made in years. 2 years later I bought the gun that this holster fits.

Yep, I've done that. I bought a beat up (even for me) 1917 for $550 that had a very decent pair of Pre War Magna's. Sold the grips for $400 but sure wish I had'em back since I need two pair for some nekid guns.

P.S. I've also bought guns "in spite" of the grips.

Sounds familiar. Wanted a Single Six and found this Super Single Six (minus the Mag cylinder):

I did once or twice.

Franken 44. M1917 Frame, 44 Special Cylinder, Barrel. All 3 have different serials. But the grips are nice. $400 bucks brought the package home. Love the grips and a bonus is.... It shoots like a Dream.

I have indeed. I bought a Colt Police Positive from 1912 that came with a beautiful set of Colt Diamondback stocks on it. I sold those to a forum member who needed them and put the correct ones on it. The gun lettered to the Argentine Capitol Police. So, it was a win-win. Everyone got what they wanted!

These came off another 28-2

I bought a K-38 and a K-22 off GB from the same seller just to get these Sandersons, which ended being sequentially numbered 4 and 5.

and then there's this one.....

I think I would have bought this with 2X4's for handles.

The grips did get my attention though

Yes. I have purchased many, where the grips were the main reason for the purchase. My most recent one was this pre27:

Yep. This 25-5 with cokes.

This re-blued 1919 Police Positive with Sambars.

This K-38 CM with jigged bone.

This 4-screw Combat Magnum came with pre-war K's and the grip adapter.

You guys are too kind. Thanks for letting me get this beauty. In fairness, I was also looking for a shooter grade pre 27 with a scope, so this killed both birds with less than a grand... BTW it cleaned up much nicer than the auction photos showed.

Do rifles count?
Of all the .17 rifles available, I chose the Mossberg 817 because of the "Sport Grip" they offered that nobody else did.

Yes, I have, a Colt Op with Ropers and a full King Conversion. I was lucky on multiple levels with that purchase.

Not grips, per se, but bought this .38 M&P from 1920 mostly because of the K-frame grip adapter. Formerly owned (so said the seller) by the Chief of Police of High Point, NC.

Bought this Model 29-2 from Gander Mountain for $400. After I got home and did some research I realized these were genuine ivory grips.

Yesterday:

Although, to be fair, I do want to play around with the gun too, and I was drunk when I bid. Boring sales events + browsing gunbroker + sales guys who insist you have just one more beer 8 times in a row = guns you don't expect to own.

Also, I was thinking about it, I bought this for the grips:

The grips went on my virtual pre war King equipped kit gun to perfect it, and with a correct set of grips the gun went to my dad as his 64th Birthday Present / You need to retire already this is your retirement gift.

He's absolutely fallen in love with the gun, and I love my kit gun now, so it's all working out quite well. Or will have worked out when he gets around to retiring like he needs to.

I once bought a minty Colt National Match semi auto with some gorgeous stag grips on it. I really did not have much interest in the Colt because it was in .38 Special but the grips were awesome! It also came with the original grips so the stags went on my Series 70. I still have the National Match and the Series 70. Just realized how ****** those pictures are! I'll try and get some better ones.

Default Perfected with Ivory

I bought this Perfected model as much for the grips as the unique action.

I figure this poorly refinished Victory came free with the purchase of the ivory grips.
