Default 1905 Target Model.......

I picked this up last week. It spent like 90 years in someone's dresser drawer. Frame is speckled, barrel has several big rust splotches, but no pits. Stocks are like new. ALL numbers match. Timing & action are superb. If this gun fired 500 rounds, I'd be amazed. I'm gonna pull the barrel off & send it to Dave Jr. for a re-blue.

Almost forgot. It has a Humpback hammer.

Trigger

Stocks are excellent.

serial number 662272

1929 or '30 would be my guess. What say you guys?

Default Yeah, I plan on shootin' this one too.....

I have a brand new 5" M&P barrel from around 1914 that has never been fit to a gun. While the 6" barrel is out being re-blued, I'm gonna fit the 5" barrel to it & blast away.

SN looks like 662272. If so, yours dates from, probably, early 1937, so it's not as old as you think. I believe most here would strongly advise the barrel (or anything else) not be re-blued. I assume the "Dave, Jr." is Chicoine? If so, you might be well advised to inquire into recent experiences with him before sending your barrel. Everything may be OK now, but I don't know the present situation.

Personally I would leave it as is, re-bluing will kill the collector value.

As far as Dave Chicoine jr, got this email from him last month, he has had a Winchester of mine for the last 2 years.

I've been sending the below to all of our customers, I've really slipped
behind and I'm trying my hardest to get caught up.

First I'd like to sincerely apologize for my lack of communication. I have
been working almost non-stop on our backlog for a long time, and have not
kept in touch with our clients as I should. As you may know, we suffered
some severe production setbacks over the last several years. Dave Sr.
suffered a catastrophic stoke, which has required constant care since. This
was followed in less than a year by some medical issues of my own, and I'm
glad to say they are now behind me. Since October 2013 I have taken in
virtually no new jobs in order to focus on the work on hand, and I'm staying
steady at it on a daily basis. Please be assured your work will be
completed as quickly as possible, and I will make it a point to be
accessible to you as the need arises. Dave Jr.

Default I had the cylinder in this gun.......

over there when Dave Sr. took ill.

KCPD Non Reg. Magnum. When I got it, the cylinder was plum colored thanks to the dept armorer in Kansas City.

Dave Jr. finished it in about 14 months. That was prior to his own injury. I am going to send him an email & inquire as to the current situation. They do excellent work. As I'm going to mount a 5" barrel on the gun anyway, time frame would not bother me.

Thanks for the '37 info.

Ned

Very nice gun.

Do you really think that barrel is from 1914? It doesn't look to be cut for the mushroom ejector knob, making me think it is from the late 20s or the 30s.

I like the magnas too. I bet it's a joy to shoot.
