Default Smith & Wesson Victory ? Please Help

I have been collecting WWII pistols/revolvers and my most recent addition is what I believe to be a Victory revolver. I have done some research online regarding this revolver, but would like to consult the experts here to see if mine is correct. First of all, it has a 5" barrel, the top strap is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". The butt is marked by the lanyard loop with the serial number, along with the initials W.B., the "flaming bomb" ordinance stamp, and the letters "P" and "F". All serial numbers are matching, (under the barrel, cylinder, back of extractor star, inside one of the wood grips, and frame on the butt). The crane and crane recess, although different numbers, match each other. The serial number of my revolver is 901,xxx. One of the things that is confusing is there is no "V" in the serial number. The revolver appears to have a blued finish, which is original, but quite worn. No pitting, rust, or any other bad things happening. Finally, caliber is .38 S&W. I cant think of any other information to include. I hope someone can tell me if I have a correct and complete wartime revolver? What year it was made? Was it a Lend Lease revolver, or U.S. issue? (.38 S&W I think were sent to the British?) And an approximate value? Any information I could find on this revolver would be greatly appreciated. I value it a lot, I have several different WWII pistols/revolvers and it is amazing how the quality between this S&W and the Nazi guns differ so much. The S&W appears to be even better made than my Colt 1917, so again, it is one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

Welcome! From your very complete description it sounds to be a .38/200 British service revolver, which many call a pre-Victory Model since it does not have the V serial number prefix. These came in a polished, matte blue then in a Parkerized-like finish as production progressed (not to mention the urgency of turning out revolvers as quickly as possible). Photos would help to determine if the finish on yours is original.

If you click on the Search function at the top of the page, then type British pre-Victory Model in the Search Site/Google text box you will find several hundred threads on this topic. Hope this is helpful.
