Default Old friend with and od mark comes home

Howdy,
My uncle popped up and said he had this given to him by my Dad years ago.
He asked if I could trade it for a pocket nine of some kind for him.
I had no idea he had it and offered him a fair amount of cash for it before he told me he wanted to swap it for a 9MM.
It's not perfect, but it's a pretty nice, 4 screw Airweight yet, with matching grips.
The good thing is I can get him a 9 for less than I offered him cash.

It does have this stamped under the yoke on the frame.

I'm not worried, it is just one mark I can't remember coming across before.
I don't plan to abuse it but I bet I shoot it more in the next couple months than it has been shot in the last 50 plus years
It's going to spend a little more time outside the home too.
WOOOHOOOO!
Thanks
Mike

I am not seeing the second picture. That one has the early fifties hammer and cylinder latch. Very nice!

Default Howdy

Hi IH,
I had trouble with the picture for some reason. I do see it now, but at first I couldn't and I had to re-upload it to Photobucket (Even though it was there) and treat the same picture, second upload, as I did the first and it shows up. Go figure?
I think the Airweight is around 57 or so. It is a C 318XXX.
Thanks
Mike

Yes, I'd say probably 1955-1956, but I don't have a SN listed which is very close to yours. I know nothing about the symbol.

The symbol is most likely a fitter/assembler/inspector's mark. As the location is where they would have placed a stamping. Ed.
