Help Me Identify S&W 38 S&W Special CTG
Hello if you guys could help me out if would greatly appreciate it, i just got this revolver and was wondering if you guys can help me find the year it was made and the model number, any help would be greatly appreciated, the serial number is, 580905. You can also see it in the pics. Thanks

It would be a S&W .38 Military and Police (M&P) model from about 1928. You'd have to get a factory letter to establish the exact shipping date, but 1928 will be close enough for most purposes. The hammer looks a little odd.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Your gun appears to be an S&W M&P model 1905 4th change. It was made between 1921 and 1928. Someone will come along and give you a better date.

Thanks, yeah i can tell where someone modified the hammer. maybe for target shooting even though it has fixed sights, do you know if it came in nickle plated? thanks

You might check to see if there any "N" stampings on the grip frame or on the rear face of the cylinder. S&W did not plate hammers, triggers, or extractor spiders.

That serial number under the barrel looks phony. I'm sure the gun was refinished, and probably was re-stamped. The number on the butt, I hope, is better.
