Default Finally landed a Transitional 38/44 Outdoorsman

Some time ago I was able to acquire this Transitional 38/44 Outdoorsman that shipped in October of 1946. As you can see from the photos its previous owner(s) used it as intended, quite a bit actually . A previous owner even went as far as to file the trigger and hammer to achieve a lighter trigger pull which resulted in some push-off issues . But, with some hunting around and some luck, I was able to find a correct hammer and trigger to get this gun back to correct working order.

The gun came to me with incorrect, later-period diamond magna stocks. I would have preferred matching magna stocks but since I already had these custom stocks on order, I thought they would compliment this revolver nicely, which I think they do . They are sort of "transitional" also, having 1/2" Pre War Medallions installed into an early 1950's style Rosewood non relieved target stock.

Very nice. I have one from about the same era.
Does it have a Registered Magnum checkered barrel rib?

Kris, whats not to like about this one! One line address, deep case coloring on the early hammer, ejector rod knob and 6 groove straps. The only thing missing is one like this in my stable. As you must know, they have escalated in price in the last few years. But the bigger problem than the price is even finding one. It's on my list and as they say, the hunt is part of the fun. Great gun!

Sadly, no RM barrel. I had high hopes due to the serial number being close to others with RM barrels.

Question

Congrats on your find and glad you're enjoying it. I must say that's about the widest turn line I've ever seen. Have a look at the cylinder stop?

I like it. I like it a lot.

Your stocks are wierding me out though man. Something about the big pre-war N frame medallions in beautiful target stocks. My brain is having a hard time reconciling these things.

They are beautiful though.

More jealous to be sure.

Better? Worse? Hard to say.

I think a Transitional deserves Sandersons. In my messed up brain the proper post war target stocks are Sanderson. It's not entirely logical, but that's how the ol' noodle insists things be.

A terrific score. Congratulations.

The transitional OD is more often than not the model that first comes to mind when someone asks me to name my favorite N-frame. Prewar long action, postwar ribbed barrel and big easy-to-adjust sights. Next to no recoil with standard or wadcutter ammo. That is the basic prescription for shooting pleasure.
