Default Anyone heard of Mell Doyle for a reblue?

I found a 6.5" 5 screw pre 29 that has recently been reblued by Mell Doyle of Idaho. Anyone seen his work of can speak to the quality of the work? Shop is asking $1300.
Thanks,

Never heard of him, but to pay that much for a reblued specimen done by anybody indicates more faith than I would have.

There are a number of posts about him on the web. They are all positive that I have read. Folks say is work is great and turn time is good....and that is all my little brain will give up today.

Regardless of who he is you must ask yourself why are you buying the gun. If you are buying a pre model for the collectability, then you are already at a loss as most collectors will not invest in a reblued gun especially if done outside the factory. If you are buying it as a shooter, then you could probably find one for less money if you look for a 29-something that has less of a collectability factor surrounding it. IMHO

If it does have Cokes, that is certainly something which needs to be considered. Those are like gold.

I have used Mel Doyle for several refinish jobs over the years. The quality is excellent! Polish is well done and a couple of grades of blueing to choose from. Is it comparable to original early factory? not quite, but very close.

bottom line is ,if you SEEN the gun just what did it look like?? how was the job?? if it looked like it was "reblued" then it was, if done "right" you'd never tell...as for price, thats what they were "asking", if you like it, you want it, then make an offer, have no clue as to what grips may be on it so that is also a determining factor...seen some junkers lately floating around and folks are asking near that price...........

I have had two guns done by him, turnaround is fast. First one turned out very good second one was very bad he offered to redo it. Both were cheap guns and just needed some blueing for protection. Both were in the $110 range if I recall. I didn't know he did high end blueing.
