Registered Magnum #535 on the way!
Hello all!
Serial #47020 ,Reg 535. It does have a Factory letter from Roy. Gun and letter only, no box, docs or tools. Finish is original and there are no service markings. Shipped October 15, 1935 and went to Greenville PD, South Carolina.
I realize the stocks are NOT correct and will need replacement. Otherwise, it is as originally shipped...
Thanks for the replies and advice on value! I did purchase this one, and am hoping to get some documentation for it from the S&W Historical Foundation. If anyone can give me any info from their archive sources, I sure would appreciate it!
Thanks!
Tim

Being an early gun it probably shipped with grip adapters and service stocks. $500-750 for those. 6.5 was most common length(by number sold). I would think $3500-5500.(Just my guess) Assuming all original condition, barrel length, etc. Good mechanical with no modifications other than grips. There are several for sale on GB and others. Prices are sometimes hard to make sense of. (at least for me!) Good luck!

Tim, I'm with S&W UCLA, Can't get hurt in that range. Have to take at least 500 off for the grips 700 if it requires the grip adapter too.
If you can get it in the $4000-$5000 neighborhood, you can't get hurt, I think. You can call me if you need. You have my number.
Don't let it walk away if there's a deal to be had there. You walk away and 10 other guys will jump on it. I have a 5" that I'm sure was a service revolver (I'll know soon). It's the only one I've ever shot. The other 3 are just too nice and since they got to be worth so much money, you have to take every precaution not to do any further damage, but, they are so sweet to target with. Good luck, Tim. Grab it !

The letter is the only way to be sure it shipped with the service type grips. I think it is late enough that it may have shipped with Magna grips. They began to be installed on the RMs in the fall of 1935, if I remember correctly. Yours may have even shipped in late 1935.

Reg #'s 643, 644, and 645 shipped 12/19/35. This one most certainly went out before that! ("Most certainly" doesn't mean I'm right---only that I'll bet money on it----and likely give odds!)

PM Bill cross (DOC 44) with your information on the Registered. He can look in the SWHF data base and he may be able to tell you what grips it was shipped with.
Make sure you tell him that you have sent for a letter.
because he is suppose to have a letter from roy before he does a search being you have send for a letter he may do the search for you.
give him all the information on the gun.

I have been waiting to see what the full serial number was! I have a set of pre-war magnas that also started with 47XXX and I thought maybe your gun was the gun that goes with these grips! DWFAN has done a great restoration on my grips since this picture was taken.

Jim,
The OP said that he already has a letter from Roy so perhaps Bill can, at least, tell him if there is additional info that he can send for from the SWHF. I am assuming that the gun letters in the form that it now exists (except for the grips) and the correct grips should be listed in the letter. He also said that he has already purchased the gun so he knows what it is worth to him.
Bob
Edit:
I see that the OP has added additional info that Jim probably didn't have when he responded. Sorry, Jim.

Very Cool gun, but I like the "ship to" destination even more. That is my hometown PD!!

Hello RM followers. Im not stealing this thread, but have a RM question I dont know where to post, so no attacks, thanks. 5405 frames stamped,
-180 frames that are a mystery. 5224 good est. total. 853 no records.
4371 documented REG. frames. OK, how am I doing, because these numbers came out of a Jinks article. Of the 4371, how many are lettered/known/seen/observed...you get the idea. I have researched and can not find a number. Im sure someone will know and rake me for this waste of time. I know the number will change day to day, so dont be that way. You guys are sometimes hard to deal with. No dis-respect to the seniors. Mike 2796.

Not true, mine does not. Reg #3714.
Edit to add: The guns on either end of mine do have something on them in the SWHF database.
