Default .32 long Hand Ejector

Hello all, interested in finding info on a hand ejector a friend has asked me to buy or sell ...
It's a .32 S&W long, 5-screw, round-butt with square stocks (no medallion), 6-in. bbl with half moon front and fixed rear sights, ser # 107102.
It's in fair-good condition with a lot of bluing remaining, but also with some rust, scratches, and slight pitting. Any ideas on year of manufacture and approximate value?

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like a pretty nice .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903-5th Change, from ~1910. About 161000 were made of this model. The 6" barrel is a little uncommon but not rare by any means. The 2 screw extended target grips on a non-target sighted model is a little unusual.

What's the location of the s/n on the grip frame: behind the trigger guard on the forestrap or on the gun butt?

Does it match the penciled s/n on the back side of the right grip (only seen with magnification and bright light)?

Is there a stamped # on the bottom of the left grip?

Will need that information and a lot better photos for a valuation.

Hi Hondo, (And thanks to the all of the forum for the add!)
S/N is on the gun butt.
No stamped # on the bottom of the left grip.
I've gone over the interiors of both grips and cannot find a penciled-in S/N. There's some mildew on the inside of the grips, though, that may be obscuring the pencil graphite. can you describe the more-or-less exact location where the S/N would be? It it possible that it's been worn away, cleaned off, or gunked-over?

I thought that target-y grips, a 6-in. bbl, and fixed sights seemed a little odd, too. I'll see about getting some better photos of the gun later today.

I've thought of making an offer to the guy ... never had an S&W anything, always kind of wanted one (nice trigger), but the lack of available ammo (I already have a revolver chambered in .41 Mag -- awfully hard to find) has me leery.

32 S&W Long ammo isn't that hard to find, in fact in some gun shops you might find it more easily than 22 LR or some of the more popular CF rounds. The good news is that it is also one of the easiest to reload of all the CF rounds... you can even de-cap and recap with simple, hand made tools, put in a small dipperful of the correct powder and seat a round ball (buckshot of the correct #) by hand. Great for plinking at marauding tin cans etc.!

Froggie

PS Love the target stocks. I've often thought they would be fun to shoot with.

The serial number would be on the forestrap if the grips were original from the factory. The s/n on the right grip would be vertical near the top center and read with the grip lying on its backstrap side.

Froggie right, ammo is not that hard to find, especially on line. Google ammoseek.com.

I would say that gun is worth in the $250 to $275 ballpark.
