2" M & P's - Gun Show Find & Tip
First 2 pics - gun show find about 6 months ago, 350.00 out the door. Target - 15 rounds, 30 feet.
Next 3 pics - I was a bartender about 25 years ago, a couple of my "regulars" ask me if I wanted a gun from their Uncle's estate - that's what they gave me - best tip I ever got!
Matching grips on both.

very neat! I will need to practice more to get those results. I have been looking for a K snub for a while. Hasn't happened. I have picked up two 36's recently though. A 2", 1981, & a 3" 1957. Got 3" at show Sat. Shot it Wed. I did look at a 15 snub at show. Was not meant to be. At least there were more nice Smiths than usual!
Now, I am old & slow..... I know the pics on the left are your gun. Do you own the 1 on the right also? You don't really say. Bob

One those needs to follow me home one of these days. Seems I'm always a day late and/or a dollar short. Enjoy!

So, I think he has this gun (unless he subsequently got rid of it).
Just figured that us old guys need to stick together! I'm slowing down too and appreciate assistance when I can get it.

That is a dandy little postwar M&P 2" revolver.
In the S prefix serial range, the 2" guns tend to show up in blocks. So far, I've identified several of the blocks as follows:
S926xxx - S928xxx
S935xxx
S948xxx
S962xxx - S966xxx
S970xxx
There are other 2" guns showing up at various other numbers, but so far they have not grouped in my data accumulation.
Those in the S948xxx group, where yours falls, seem to have shipped in October, 1947. Of course, they could have gone out later, so that's not a guaranteed ship date for yours. But I believe it will be close. There is also one in the S954xxx range that also shipped in October, 1947. I don't have destination information on enough of them to see if there were several in a single order, but one would expect that possibility.
You surely got yours the right way. Can't beat free!!!
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the replies and the information on the possible ship date.
Yes, I have both of these, if I can find another somewhere between free and 350.00 I'll have 3 of them.
Would a letter on either be worth it?
Thanks again

That's kind of a "how much do you want one" sort of thing. There is nothing particularly remarkable about either of these two revolvers, historically at least. And there are no "special features" issues to be straightened out by a letter. So there is no strong driving force to suggest spending the $50 ($100 total for both) to get a letter.
However, if you do go that route, I would appreciate it if you would pass along the shipping date on the S prefix gun for my research.
Regards,

I have seen this question posted a gazillion times and the answers range from "not worth it for a plain jane gun like yours" to "I letter every gun I acquire."
My take on this topic is that the answer that you get for most guns will be that it shipped to XYZ Hardware in Oshgosh, Wyoming. However, every once in a while you get "Joe, your gun was shipped to Elmer Keith."
In the words of Harry Callahan the question that you have to ask yourself is:
You've got to ask yourself a question: 'do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?
