Factory Nickel Pre Model 19 Combat Magnum With Smooth Rosewood Targets PICS
Here are some pictures of My Factory Nickel Pre Model 19 Combat Magnum that shipped in April of 1957.I am more of a N Frame Guy but this is my Grail K Frame so I had to pick it up.I do not have the Letter back on it but there is a "N" on the left side of the Frame,In the Barrel Shroud and under the Extractor so I am 99% sure it is Factory Nickel.I want to thank Jim for the Gun and Kris for the awesome smooth Rosewood Stocks.

Interesting,
IIRC The early production Combat Magnums shipped between Jan and May 1956 and a run of nickel Combat Magnums in the K264000 range shipped around April 1957.
I have a Model marked 19 in the K391000 range that also does not have an "N" stamp on the cylinder face with small "N" on the frame ,
Your earlier frame would have the jig hole in the heel by the stock locator pin (gone by my K391000) and guessing the cylinder face has the serial stamped there ?

There is a "KN" stamp in the barrel shroud in front of the serial number. There is a "N" stamped under the extractor star on the Cylinder. The serial number is stamped into the face of the cylinder. There is a "N" stamp on the left side of the frame followed by a "3" and the Jig hole is still in the frame.

Very nice Combat Magnum Alex I have one but it is a bit younger than yours, a 19-2 4" Nickel. Also had a 4-screw Model 19 Nickel, Full Target for a spell.
The stocks are about as nice of Rosewood as I have seen; it was hard to let them go!
Here is a pic of the N stamp on my former Model 19, 4-Screw

The "3" frame stamp identifies the KT357 Magnum frame,
Interestingly the practice of stamping the serial number in the barrel ejector rod shroud was discontinued by May 1958 before K318000,
The serial numbered cylinder face and frame jig hole were discontinued by 1960 although they still serial numbered under the ejector star,
(K391xxx also has the "N" cylinder stamp under the star).
The 19-1 was the last 4 screw CM frame and used the new L hand threaded ejector rod IIRC the letter "L" is stamped on the cylinder face to indicate the "Left" hand thread cylinder.

Welcome to the Pre-19 Factory Nickel-Rosewood Club Here is mine for reference.
With Box...the grips match, but the lighting makes the left panel look darker.:

It is kind of funny on the barrel N stamp, sometimes it is out side of the serial number and sometimes it is in the middle. I had an early nickel K-38 and if you didn't know better you would think the SN was KNXXXXXX

Minutes from the last meeting:
1) Voting for club president: Alex for club President.
2) Nick seconds the motion
Yes, there are two so far. Anyone else.....crickets chirping.

I think it has been mentioned that 10% of the first batch of 5,000 Combat Magnums where Nickel. Now I realize that this Forum does not represent the S&W Collector pool as a whole but with only 4 showing up it seems hard to believe that their are 500 or more out there.

Sorry Chuck. We took a vote at last night's meeting....model marked guns and dash guns, even a -1, are not allowed into the club. The vote was 3-1.
Jim, you'd be a great caretaker...as long as you do not sell it for another 3.5" pre-27

This one is also within the first 5000 serial numbers for the CM. The revolver was owned by a good friend of Charlie Wendell (as in Kearsarge stocks) and these custom smooth stocks were made by him. Absolutely hands down, the best fitting grips I have ever experienced on any handgun. The correct N in the right place on the frame, this is K264008.

Fewer boxes than nickel CMs for sure.

The photos of my CM don't show the condition of the plating well, but it is as good as the rest of the guns shown. Mirror-like with few scratches or other defects.
Now, does anyone want to give some input as to what these nickel CMs might be worth today? I am not looking to sell mine, but it would be nice to have an idea from knowledgable people as to what my gun is likely worth on today's market.

They do not come up for sale enough on the open market(GB).The last one was about 2 Years ago and sold for $2,000....What that makes it "worth" Today is anyones guess.
