Talking 2 38 safety hammerless fifth model

I have two 38 hammerless safety fifth models. One a blue three inch with medallion pearls ser#244480, great condition. The other is nickeled four inch with S&W black grips, 257348. I would be happy to find out when each of these Smiths were manufactured? Thanks s&wfan2..........

As you have probably read in related posts on this Forum, the available factory records indicate shipping dates and not manufacture dates. Shipment of late examples of the 38 Safeties is rather sporadic since they did not go out in serial number order. I would say your oldest example is probably 1919+/-. The higher number would be somewhere around 1930, but could vary a few years +/-.

You will need a factory letter from Roy Jinks to give you exact shipping dates and the letters are $50 each. The letter will tell the original configuration and where it was shipped, but most went to distributors or sporting goods stores.
