Default Need help to identify 32 Revolver

I'm trying to identify the model and year built for my 32 revolver.
Type - Hand Ejector
Serial # - 116xxx
Caliber - 32 Long
Barrel - 4.25"
Fixed Sights
5 Screw

I noticed a pin on the left side of the gun (circled in red), that I haven't noticed on other 32 revolvers that I've seen on this site.

Thanks for your help.

Hi
This is a .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903. It was shipped sometime around 1912 (others may be able to speak more precisely to this issue).
The pin you asked about is the retaining pin for the rebound slide spring. I believe this was protected under a patent that was issued in 1906, so guns made before about 1907 do not have this pin.

Piffell,

Welcome to this forum!

Yes, what Jack said! That pin was common on all frame sizes after they received the trigger rebound slide, and the pin is covered by the left side grip once Magnas were introduced just before the war, and after the war on the I frames. And were also polished flat after the war making them almost indiscernible.

Thanks for your help.
One more question. Do you know about how much it should cost to replace the hammer? Are replacement hammers readily available?

The pre war I frame center fire hammers, both .32 and .38 S&W hammers being the same, is one of the most plentiful produced. Except the earliest versions with their slight differences from the majority of the pre war production. Yours, from the 1910 to 1917 period should not be too difficult to find.

By searching e-bay and Gunbroker for 'smith hammer' or 'smith parts kit' and by removing your hammer to make comparisons of those you find, should net you a hammer.

I'll also PM you with other postential sources.

.
On a lot of guns, S&W did not ship in sequence of serial numbers; I don't have comparative data, so I don't know on this model.
But I just got my letter on #147XXX, which shipped in November 1911.
According to the letter, the Fifth change, which yours falls under also, started in 1910 with #102501, so I suspect they didn't ship in order, since I'm doubtful they would have shipped something like 45.000 in little more than a year. Only a letter would tell you for sure when yours went out.

I have a few hammers/triggers or old S&W's around......I'll see what I have on hand. Some appear to be in excellent condition, but I am not a gunsmith!
Feel free to PM me with your contact info, or better yet email me at [email protected]
