I purchased this Pre model 12 from a gun dealer out of Fergus Falls Minnesota Neigel Firearms. He runs all the local gun shows. I never fired the revolver and I never noticed the cracked frame when I purchased the gun. Tried to call the dealer many times and left messages with his wife. He never returned my calls. Not an unknown affliction with the Model 12. That's why I have always avoided them. Can't you pay him a visit in person?

In person at the gunshow. Its been a while. I put it in my gun safe after the purchase and never fired it. It was a few months before the crack was discovered.

Since this was a FTF deal and you missed what appears to be an obvious crack, it is possible he didnt see it either? If this was an online deal, I get it completely but I think FTF the expectation is understandably higher that the buyer inspect the merchandise and be satisfied with the condition. Did the price reflect a deal too good to be true? I cannot explain his unwillingness to return a phone call to try to come to an agreement.

Well that doesnt reflect a parts gun price. I believe I would make 1 more trip to a show you knew he would be at.

If you had opportunity to inspect it, decided to buy it, and noticed the flaw months later, I'm afraid it's your loss. It's not a new gun, under warranty. If he takes it back, he would be taking a loss at your word that you didn't cause the crack. Even if it was not a FTF deal, most sellers offer a 3 day non-firing inspection, and you're well past that now. The deal is done. Sorry for your loss, but honor the deal you made, and never buy a gun you haven't thoroughly inspected and/or shot. An expensive lesson to learn.

It is entirely possible that it happened in your gun safe. Perhaps the temp changed a few degrees the one time that it took for the stressed socket to give way.

After examining a beautiful Model 1902 .32-20 (with a flashlight & magnifying glass), I made an offer which was accepted. While showing off the photos on this very forum, I noticed a crack under the forcing cone. I felt sick for a few days, but decided that it was my fault, and shook it off. I decided to shoot it until the barrel falls off. The crack hasn't grown, the seller still doesn't know, and I learned a little about inspecting a gun more carefully before I buy it. I don't think I can ever sell it, but it's still a beautiful gun. I'm happy with it. Shoots like a dream.
