Default 1948 K-22 masterpiece target model worth?

Hi All,
I am looking in to the estimated worth of the firearm in the title line for my uncle. From my investigation work online I have come to the following conclusions. 1. 1948 model year 2. 5 Screw square butt 3. Barrel, Cylinder, Ejector Star, and Grips match serial number. 4. Original Box 5. Stainless Steel Screwdriver 6. Bluing is 80%. Thanks in advance!

Serial number would give "approximate" age.

Two key features are also important for value:
Barrel style ejector rod knob and one line "Made In USA" on right side of frame instead of the 4 line address.

I think you are mistaken about this. I don't think any SATs were ever made of stainless, and certainly not in 1948. If the SAT is correct for the period, it would be either carbon steel with nickel plate or carbon steel that is blued. In both cases, it would have 9 bands of knurling. The blued version later had only 8 bands, I think. In both cases, it would have a blued shaft.

It sounds like yours is the nickel plated version.

That's a really nice package. The box and screwdriver are huge pluses. Also, I personally think it's a little nicer than 80%. I'm not very good at placing value, but I wouldn't sell it for less than $750 or 8. Both the box and screwdriver are worth about a hundred bucks each. The K-22's are VERY popular, and for good reason.
Thanks for posting the pics. That helps alot.

Roger

It might just be the quality of the photograph but the lettering on the right side of the barrel look to be less crisp than the rest. Focus and the flash may be responsible.

Yep. That is the nickel plated SAT (not stainless). These were issued from 1940 until 1948, so yours came at the tail end of production, before they went to the blued version (I think it first started shipping in 1947, so there was some overlap).

And I agree with Memphis. This revolver appears to be better than 80%. A quite nice example.

Roger, I agree the gun is probably in mid 90s %-wise.

But, I'd have to say the box and SAT are worth more than $100 each. That's a Nickel-Steel Knurled SAT and they usually run $150+, sometimes close to $200. The box, well its probably in that same range.

You'll notice that the lower sideplate screw, near the rear of the trigger guard appears to be flat. I'll bet you a $1 that the domed screw that should go there is in the hole under the stocks

I agree with all the above points. I already made the point about the identification of the SAT, and the price quoted here is about right.
Someone has, apparently, had the sideplate off and switched the screws when he put them back in. I presume he got the front one right, or the yoke would have a tendency to come loose in your hand when opened.
The gold boxes from this period are currently selling for $150 and up.

I think so. You might be hard pressed to replace all this stuff for that amount. But it is certainly insurable for a grand.
