I'll throw another one in. The serial number suggests it should have shipped in 1937 with its siblings, but it shipped in December of 1940 and letters with the magna stocks and grooved humpback hammer. Forgive the crappy cellphone pic and the fact that is needs waxed again. This is one of two OD's that I am aware of that are configured with RM humpback hammers.

The Letter specifically mentions that the HB Hammer was grooved?

How about a slight audible? I really like .44 Special Double Locks (3rd model, 1950, M24). I call them that because they look like TLs, but usually don't get the outrageous prices TLs do.

I like guns that worked for a living:

Model 29 (-2?) from 1973 Louisville KY PD. This one left the factory w/ no model marking on the crane.

Here is a .38/44 from 1950 issued by the Arkansas State Police. I'm no judge of these things. But, I think it has been refinished.

More to come......

Wow...super looking S&W's. I thought I would enter my lousy
factory original nickel .44 HE Triple Lock with a 6.5" bbl. made
in 1915. It also has a period correct black H.H. Heiser holster
marked "44 S&W 6 1/2", and a full box of 1908 UMC .44 Spcl.
Remington bought out UMC the following year.

Here is another N frame: transitional 38/44 HD all original
that shipped in July of 1946. It has a Nelson, Mecca Sporting
Goods, Redding, Calif. S&W MIL & POL carved holster, and
a box of Winchester X .38 Special Super Police ammo.

Try this 25-5 with elk grips (I really don't like the factory target grips - this was easy to change - but if you want to see the originals they're in my revolver album):

Okay, to be fair to the factory original, here's the same gun with the original stocks, and I'll toss in my pre-war .38-44, too:

Have a bit of 44 Special envy/lust going on at the moment. Great guns and pictures folks!

Here's my boring old 4 screw, it's been refinished at S&W for an unknown reason. Maybe I can bridge the gap of its shortcoming with some dead cow?

Last one...factory original nickel pre-27 with aged ivory mag-
nas that shipped on June 29, 1950. It has a 1950 H. H. Heiser
#759 carved holster that is marked "MAG 3 1/2" on the back
below the maker's mark.

This thread inspired me to break them all out.

I have no idea how I can get a really good picture of them all, this is the best I could manage.

One I used to own. It shipped to Mexico with an ivory bead front sight on an 8 1/4" barrel, and Tuskoid stocks.

Lee,

Once again we need ' a "LOVE" or at the very least a "Really Really Like" button!! Giving this a "like" doesn't do it justice! WOW!!!!

Here's another one. It is a pre-war .38/44 that letters to Durham NC PD in 1937:

I have one more Heavy Duty from 1953 from the Colorado State Patrol. I'll try to get pics posted soon.

Default This one could also fit the Ugly N thread due to its.............

.........close relationship with a hacksaw but I kinda think its purty, it sings to me.

A third model HE .44 Especial sent to Oshman"s for Houston PD according to Mr Jenks.

In April of 1948 it took a trip back to the Factory. Don't know what all they did to it there, but the barrel length is now 3 & 1/2, has a very nice blue job, and is wearing a very unusual grip adapter. Very similar to the one depicted in Lee's Album.

It has also has a set of Colt Single Action Army style grips made out of what appears to be walnut with ivory diamonds.
There is a name of a previous owner engraved on the right side plate that also appears to be factory done.

Best of both worlds, a DA S&W .44 that handles and points like a SAA. I think a very savvy gunner had this made this to fit his needs in the past.
More of that hand held history.

Guess this one might fit in.
Sort of a "late old school".
At least it IS P&R:

This one is fired regularly.
400 rounds of 240 LSWC on Tuesday.

This Model 29's another "late old school" example. I bought it brand new in early 1980. It's had the hooey shot out of it and more rounds have been fired through it than any other N-Frame on the place. Was heavy into hunter pistol silhouette competition for some years and it bore the brunt in fine style.

Although, .44 Specials are my weakness, I do love other N frames.

This early '20s Commercial 1917 doesn't get shown off nearly as much as she deserves.......

Here is a Pre-Model 27, the Colt 357 Magnum, factory engraved but refinished in nickel. It is a sweet shooter!

I am far outclassed in here, but had to add my 1917 commercial that I just bought last week. Really happy with it, please ignore the late period Altamonts, I have some Eagle Magnas on the way. Also, please forgive the Colt. It was my grandfathers, made in 1927. He bought it from the PX in Tientsin, China in 1930 when he was a young Infantry lieutenant.

No fancy pictures. No fancy gun. Still like my 28 no dash from 1960. S serial #. Found the stocks at a flea market. Was tickled to get them "cheap". Bob

Default .38/44 Heavy Duty

Here is an N Frame, a year older than I am. It was shipped from the S&W factory in 1930, to a hardware in Michigan, and I bought it from a gun store, in Florida, as a S&W Mod. 14, in 2004. In those 88 years, it has seen a lot of use, and I'd love to know it's history, such as the eight hash marks sawed into the stag grips, three on the right grip, and five on the left grip. I don't think it's side plate has ever been removed, and it has as smooth a trigger, as any of my S&W revolvers. I'll leave it's beauty up to, "the eye of the beholder" Thanks for sharing it with me. I am adding pictures of the holster, to answer a question about it, by a fellow member.

Tom:

Great pic's of that beauty with the giraffe bone stocks! One of these days that one needs to migrate "a little farther south" here in the AZ... like to MESA.

That is a beautiful gun. I am a succor for the 8.375" 357s and Factory engraved ones really get my heart beating a little faster. I would love to see a few more photos of that one and hear some more of the story ... perhaps in a new thread...please

Thanks for sharing,

Some great guns added recently. Thanks for bumping this one back to the top. I'll add a couple of factory engraved nickel pre-27s...

Bravo for bringing this thread back for discussion!

I'll add an old school N-frame acquired since this thread last came around. Here's my Second Model .44HE Target. It shipped in February 1939. I posted more photos of it here: 44 H.E. 2nd Mod. Target #49369

All numbers match, including the magnas.

This one is a little battle-scarred but it has the medals to show for it....
