Default Pre 28 Highway Patrolman ?

I'm looking for any comments and information about this particular Smith. Year of production, how rare, etc. S/N S113308. I realize the finish is not original. TIA

I have one about 250 numbers earlier than yours that shipped July, 1954.
Generally speaking, refinished guns loose any collector value.
How does it shoot?

It's on another site I'm a member of and I'm thinking about making him an offer. I realize it doesn't have collector value and was pondering how much to offer.

If I were in your shoes and I was interested, I would not spend more than $350-400 (if mechanically ok).
(Personally, I'd rather spend twice my estmate for an original blue one)

Stepjo40, appears to be a nice shooter. Shoot, clean and enjoy.

The asking price is $500.00 and you gentleman know much better than I what it's worth. I was thinking $450+.

At $450 you can get a nice original 28 four inch for about $300 more.

You may want to check this thread out. 5 SCREW HP

Default Pre 28

IMHO that one will never be worth LESS than 500. You are looking at a custom that has lots of pizzaz. I can tell you that collector guns are admired, but never fired. What's the fun in that? A 1954 pre 28 Custom....go for it!

I'm leaning toward buying it. I shoot everything I own or trade it for something I will and the aftermarket nickle really doesn't bother me. I'm from SE Alabama and you might think prices would be lower but I really can't find anything I want for less than $500 although I spend a lot of time looking.

I would probably spend the money if it were sitting in front of me. Especially if the nickel is in good shape.

It would make a classy woods gun. What else can you buy for 500 bucks?

Hello stepjoe40
That would make a perfect wood's carry gun finished in Nickel. The seller's price is fair for what he has offered. I would Pounce on it if it were me. Refinished gun's do not bother me if they have been done right and that one seems to look really nice. Ya Snooze ya Loose... Hammerdown

I paid less for this one but that was a few years ago. I would not sell it today for $500. I like it just the way it is.

Let me add, welcome to the forum from another Bama boy.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! You're right, we don't see them much around here. I have bought two around Dothan in the last 4-5 years and those are about all I've seen advertised. I currently own a 4" shooter with lots of "character." $500 is not bad for an N frame shooter in top condition, but it would be mo' betta at $425...jes sayin'

I was just in the Outpost in Dothan yesterday looking for a nice holster for my M19 (nobody has anything anywhere around to do it justice) and looked through all their revolvers. I do this at all the local shops regularly and anything I would think about buying comes with a $500.00 price, usually $600+.

That's why I stay on the forums and auction sites I guess.

It looks good to me (other than the Goodyears) I have a 6" no dash from 1960. The 28's (& pre) are fine guns. What is there not to like? Bob
