Need help from the experts on an old S&W 32 long pencil barrel
I picked this little gem up today. The barrel and cylinder still has a lot of blue on it and the grips are in excellent shape for age. The frame has a nice brown patina and all the serial #s match. The serial # is 370xxx. On the bottom of the grips it says 'Pat June 5 1917'. Just curious as to when it was made ans what it might be worth? I appreciate the help.

It's a .32 Regulation Police, even though not marked as such. I'd guess yours shipped in the 1921-22 period. Grips are of the 1920s style, and it has the S&W logo stamped on the left side of the frame. Others more familiar with RPs than I will be along with more detail. BTW, S&W never called it a "pencil" barrel. It's a standard barrel. And at that time, it was the only style offered.

It was a norinco, non-paratrooper model. Had an extra synthetic stock.

I would guess 1921-23, Regulation Police, standard service sights. The grips show the Patent Date for that design….with a rebated grip frame.
These are remarkable shooters. If you do not reload, I suggest Fiocchi 100gr WC loads for good accuracy and very little recoil.
Mine is a dream to shoot…..

I'm envious. I'd love to have one of those.

RP stocks show up from time to time on ebay. In the condition that yours show, probably $100. If in the condition that Terry (tjpopkin) shows, at least double that estimate.

DId you mean just the value of the stocks, or of the whole gun? The gun as I see it in the photos is at least $300-350, including the stocks, and maybe as much as a hundred more depending on hands-on inspection.

Yes David, just the stocks. I thought the quote I posted from the OP was specifically asking for the value of the stocks, but maybe not??
