SAT Dimensions, where to look?
I'm sure you all have seen my thread about my K22. I'm looking for dimensions for the 3 possible SAT's for it. In June of 2010 Doug Whitson did an excellent write up about these. I've been trying to find the dimensions but am striking out. Anybody know where I can go? If I should have posted this in my previous thread please say so. I figured since it is a different topic (sort of) others may benefit by not having to sort through the other posts. Thank you

I don't remember seeing anything giving exact dimensions of SATs, and within some range, there may be dimensional variations within the same type. I suspect that SATs, being simple items, were probably sourced from outside S&W, but I don't know that. I am sure there were dozens of companies capable of making screwdrivers to S&W specs more cheaply than S&W could make them.

I'd be happy to measure these for you. There is another aluminum fluted screwdriver between these. It has the same fluting as the short blade but the long tapered blade of the steel knurled one. There is a thread on these but quite a few of the pictures are missing.

Sorry for the delay. I had to replace the battery in my micrometer.
Here are the dimensions:
Black 8-row knurled screwdriver:
Handle circumference ------------------> .508"
Length -----------------------------------> 3.052"
Handle length ---------------------------> 1.518"
Aluminum fluted screwdriver:
Handle circumference ------------------> .488"
Length -----------------------------------> 3.189"
Handle length ---------------------------> 1.532"
I suspect the 9 row knurled screwdriver handle is a bit longer. Also, I would expect the dimensions to vary from screwdriver to screwdriver due to machining differences.

I went to school for electrical engineering. Got about a year left to finish. Hated it. Quit. All I wanted to do was get dirty, work with my hands. Didn't care what it was, ended up being a mechanic.

And you didn't give us the major and minor OD for the knurling, as well as the groove OD? Really???

Do you also want the width and depth of the tooth cuts in the knurling and the width of the top of the teeth?
I said I was an engineer...not anal .

An equation expressing the curvature of the transition from the handle to the blade shaft would be nice.

Went to the gun show in Mansfield Ohio today. Lookin for all the goodies that came with my Masterpiece. Struck out of course. Every gentleman I talked to kinda chuckled, told me good luck, and then we'd have a nice conversation.....mostly it was me listening to their stories. But very enjoyable. Most gave me some sort of advice, the most common was be patient. "What you are trying to do takes time" they would say. So, while walking around i spotted a Pre-64 model 94. The wife and I walked around some more all the time me drooling over that Winchester. About an hour later I picked up a 20 gauge 500 mossburg youth model. For my nephews to go hunting with me. Spent most of what I had in my pocket. Right before leaving the show I lost my wife. She reappeared at the door carrying that old Winchester. Spent the day with my wife, learned a few things from some more knowledgable folks and came home with a Winchester. What good day, and the sky is blue with the sun shining! I'm very blessed.
