I feel very lucky to have this one. It is all matching, including the grips. I was told by more than a few people that it had a cut down barrel and there was no such thing as a checkered trigger back then...

Here's my TL Target, 7133*, shipped September 26, 1912 to M.W. Robinson Company New York City. Returned to S&W in June 1936 for factory refinish. Grip frame has "B" inside diamond stamp but no date. The sights are modified and the original trigger has been replaced with a post-war grooved trigger. It's a nice piece to study and enjoy. Check out that front sight! Photos by Lee (handejector).

That is one incredible Target Model Triple Lock! Target configuration with a 5" barrel, and a checkered trigger on top of that.

That's unique and very nice! It has a 6.5" barrel.

Since it didn't have a refinish date stamped, I presume you got the date from S&WHF?

Never seen another front sight like that. Could it have been a factory front blade from the RM option list?

What is the white ring around the elevation screw and is there some coloring from heat applied to the rear sight tang, or just reflection?

Yes, the SWHF historical letter indicates that the revolver belonging to Mr. P. E. Tyler was sent to S&W by Mr. Geo. W. Cole of Scottsville, Kansas on June 21, 1936 for reblue. Mr. Tyler wanted to take it to Washington state on an outing about the 5th of July.

I asked Lee about the front sight when I bought it in May, 2014. He thought it was not factory work.

The hole for the 2nd screw is countersunk and the white ring appears to be metal extrusion from drilling that has been carefully filed to match the profile of the round sight tang. The blue on either side of the screw hole is discolored due to the heat produced by drilling the sight tang. The rear sight has been rounded on the sides and touched up with cold blue.

How this TL got a post-war grooved trigger and sight modifications is a mystery. Lee speculated that it may have been returned to the factory in the 1950's for a new trigger and another reblue, but this has not been confirmed. The unusual front sight and modifications to the rear sight blade and tang indicate work performed by someone other than the factory.
