Welcome to the forum.
Is that number off the bottom of the grip frame? That's where you can count on finding a S&W's serial number. They have unrelated numbers stamped on them. Letters preceeding the serial number are part of the s/n even if they are widely separated. Is it a 5 shot or 6 shot? If a 6 shot does it have two lines of information stamped one over the other on the barrel?

Yes that is the serial number under the butt of the grip it is also under the barrel as well it is a 5 shot also. There is a "H" stamped above the assembly number. I tried to upload pictures but they say the size is to big and I do not know another way to upload them.

Most likely it is an I frame Terrier. Other members know the small revolvers a lot better than I do so I'll leave this for them. In the FAQs or someplace there is help posting pictures. Your pictures will provide the most information.

Welcome to the Forum. As k22fan states is almost has to be a 38/22 Terrier with your serial number range. The Terrier was numbered in the 38 Regulation Police range from around 39000 to 123000. The 70000 range would have most likely shipped in 1953.
If you have a 2nd Edition of the SCSW, you can read about it on page 109. It is on page 149 in the SCSW, 3rd Edition.

Welcome to the forum.
That's an extremely nice .38 Terrier built on the Improved I frame with 5 screws. Shipped in Jan. 1954.

Thanks for the help
I found this weapon tucked away in a craw space in my father in laws house when we were cleaning it out. And I couldn't find anything about it so I turned to here. I am more of a modern day gun guy sw .380 and .40. How would I go about the value of something like this since I do not have the need for it.
Thanks

Figuring out how to get those pictures posted here is the best start on valuing it that I know of. It's just like old cars. On sunny Sundays one fellow in town eats burgers at the old drive in to show off his freshly waxed 1937 pick up. My aunt had one of the same trucks behind her barn with an 8" hemlock growing up through the floor board with branches extending out through its windows. What are 1937 pick ups worth?

N_Wagoner87 PMed a link to his photo-bucket. Hondo44 nailed it. It is a an improved I frame in collector condition, over 95%. All I see for wear and tear are a light turn line, its extractor rod blueing is lightly worn and a small chip out of the upper inside corner of its magnas behind the trigger guard. Those walnut magnas look original.
I don't know Terrier values.

My last Postwar Terrier (like yours) in 99+% with original box was $750. My 98% Postwar Terrier with prewar grips without box was $550. I believe both were priced fair.
