After I posted this recent thread: Beloit Wisconsin P.D. 38/44 Heavy Duty, and a few other pre war N-frame Police guns I was contatcted by one of the well known forum members asking if I'd be interested in adding another 38/44 HD police gun to what is becoming a "collection" of pre war N-frame police guns. Being a sucker for Heavy Duties, it wasn't a hard sell.

This one is an early one, having been shipped on June 4, 1930, only two months after the first HD left the factory. It is gun #14 of a 15 gun shipment to the Tonawanda Township New York Police Department. This one shows the typical wear of a police gun, but it's still in very good condition with a trigger pull that's right up there with the best of them. Someone filed the top of the front sight flat, but they did a nice job in doing so. I'm looking forward to getting this one out to the range to see what it can do.

Cool. I used to get parts for my Buell at a North Tonawanda H-D dealer when I lived in WNY. Nice area and a fun ride.

Nice addition to your collection - and a focus I appreciate. We'll be able to identify the SWCA member who sold you that gun. He'll be in Spokane at the annual meeting in flip-flops.

I had a post war HD nickel 5" marked 'T.T.P 46' back in the 60's.
I lettered it at the time and it was shipped to a distributor in Buffalo, NY. I guessed it had been a Tonawanda Township PD gun.
Some others at the time thought it may have stood for Tonawanda Tribal Police (Erie County) or Tuscarora Tribal Police (Niagra County)
No easy way to check back then and no one really cared so I just went w/my guess.
I bought it from a garage gun dealer in Holley NY for $40 at the time.


When I worked for a large gunshop in the 90's, I saw another postwar nickle 5" HD marked with the TTP roll stamp on the back strap come through but don't remember the rack number.
Didn't buy that one and had already sold the first one. Probably have the ser# of #1 around somewhere if it's of interest.
