Default Transitional Terrier

I just added a nice post war transitional Terrier to my collection. This little beauty has mostly post war features yet is still a true I frame. Now if I can just find a nice pre war at a reasonable price......

You're a winner! That's a very nice transitional.

The prewar guns are out there but are so infrequently seen that top quality guns bring huge prices, and the more worn specimens at lower prices are scooped up almost in the same minute they rise above the horizon. I have been tracking prewar Terriers for several months now, and I have identified only about 30.

I looked long and hard for that very model and issue! I finally ended up having to "settle" for a pre-War issue, but that one still turns my crank! Congratulations.

Thanks for posting that excellent photo. I have a J-frame in .38 S&W that is a successor to the Terrier and now the difference between the two is obvious to me. GRACIAS!

Nice Terrier! I have its twin at SN 58260. Has to be close to yours. I'm thinking Dec 1950/Jan 1951 +/-

Default Beautiful!!!

That is a work of art. I am constantly amazed at the level of craftsmanship exemplified in S&W products of the interwar and post war years. Swiss watches seem crude by comparison!! I have a couple of Terriers, and although not as pristine as yours externally, they are perfect mechanically, and have like new bores. The .38 S&W is a delightful cartridge to shoot, and it's mild pressures are gentle on these older revolvers. I also reload for this (and a lot of other) calibers, and with lead bullets, and a mild powder charge, we should be able to shoot these great guns forever, and at a reasonable cost. Congratulations on a wonderful product of a sadly missed era of Amerian craftsmanship.
