If I recall correctly, Phil called the style his interpretation of classic "Victorian".
As to why I find the K22 even nicer (it is by very small degrees), and it more has to do with the proportions of the scroll and how they fit on the gun (particularly on the cylinder) see below for comparison.
38-44 on top and K-22 on bottom:
I'll post a detailed spread on the K22 in a week or so, when I have time to crop some of the photos.

I've seen a few engraved guns and had a couple myself, but those are truly best of breed. I've never seen anything like that.
They finally answer the questions "Who put the bop in the bop shoo bop" and "Who put the ram in the ramalama dingdong?"
Richard and Phil did.
Great Scot, man, that is gorgeous work. "Over the top" but tasteful, which is a dang hard thing to pull off.

RKMESA: It's patrons like you that keep this level of engraving alive. I bet your engraver is thrilled to work with someone of such discerning taste. Well done.

I've asked that question a few times over the years. Take my word for it that you really don't want to know. It will just make you depressed.

Richard:
Another stunning achievement, a collaboration between yourself and the engraver. Now that we know a little about him and his work, it makes the enjoyment of these spectacular firearms even more complete!!
Thanks for sharing with us,
Best Regards, Les
