Default A Couple of 4 inch 44 Specials and a Range Reort

Hi
Well it was a nice day in Montana so I went out and put some rounds down range in one of my 4 inch 44 Specials.
Now the rest of the story. The gun I shot the target with is a gun that I bought 15 or 20 years ago. It was made my a Montana Gunsmith in the early 70's for a Montana HP Officer.
He was a Target shooter and enjoyed the 44 Special but he also wanted some thing he could carry on duty. He had this gun made from a 28-2 using a 6 1/2 inch model 24 barrel and the parts from the model 28. The Gun Smith did a great job, the cylinder was chambered to the 44 special. The rest of the Modifications were a reworked front sight with a Gold insert in the front sight and a Target rear sight to replace the S&W factory sight. The sight was made by Behlert and is a direct replacement for the factory sight, it is a white outline and works very good for target shooting. The action was smoothed up and the cylinder gap was set when the barrel was cut and installed. The complete gun was polished and refinished in Bright Blue. The work was as good as the Factory, no edges rounded and all lettering sharp.

The other gun in the picture was shipped in 1955 and it has not been fired since it left the factory and no I am not going to shoot it, since I have this other one that shoots this good.

Enjoy the story and the pictures.
Jim Fisher

I'll take a 4" M24 for $1K. Understand we are NOT discussing the 1983 24-3.
