Aircrewman 22 Frankenrevolver?
Found this in a scrap pile at an estate sale. Paid $5.00 and tossed it in the bottom of a box that I loaded up with spider encrusted junk. Looks like the fellow was into tinkering on guns as I found old gun barrels and misc. firearms pieces in the box. It looks to be an original Airman serial C299644. Matching # on cylinder that was destroyed. One of the cylinders bores has an insert seems its the "Ultra Rare 22 long barrel prototype model!" Seriously was this guy on to something or on something! Is anything salvageable or did I get taken? Was hoping something is of use as a parts gun to someone, or maybe I will find some cheap grips and blue the barrel for a wall hanger. Thanks in advance for any response!

Welcome to the Forum.
Lots of good parts there or you could make it a shadow box revolver. It is worth much more than $5, IMNSHO.

That's about the SN range where one would expect to find a USAF gun. I'd think it could be restored to (at least the appearance of) original condition, or approximately so. What is that thing in a chamber? You could probably find suitable replacements for the barrel and alloy cylinder. In any event, it's worth a lot more than $5 as it has what appears to be an intact frame. Those are usually hacked up.

Is that a .22LR insert for a Model 53 'Jet'?

The frame appears to be a legitimate Air Force revolver. Very close serial numbers were shipped to Norton AF Base in late 1954. It appears to be definitely restorable. Worth the money ! Ed.

I think I actually have all the parts to put that one back together. I've got an intact al cylinder and an airweight-stamped barrel somewhere. The rest of the parts are easy.

Thanks! You guys really know your stuff! CGT4570 if you would be interested or anyone else in the unit please let me know. That is if propper in this forum. I must admit that I am not a strong collector of firearms, only own a few, and it seems that there is a better home out there for this unit, thats what brought me here. Thanks again all!
P.S. Dwalt, I think your on to something!

Did some close examination of the yoke and it has a different number34392 and a 6 above it. Same on the frame both facing when closed. Could these be some kind of inspection numbers? The inside of side plate has the same numbers. The only other questionable thing is a period after the word "LightWeight" instead of a comma like after the word "Revolver" or perhaps the stamping did not penetrate the curved surface like a flat surface? Also would it be possible to repair the small 1/4"x 5/8"long section of the original matching cylinder by either cutting a piece from another cylinder or filling it in? As it is minimal damage compared to the 2 I dug up with a metal detector, that are cut end to end with torch and did serious damage. One still has a round in it. They have four digit serials one #1506 other #15??. As the gun can not be fired anyway.

Those are assembly numbers used during the manufacturing procedure.
