Old Triple Lock Pic
Several members gave me a lot of help and information regarding the Triple Lock last week before I had figured out how to post pictures. Now that I know how to do it, here's a picture of my gun SN 2XXX. Probably early first year production, but not sold until 1913. It does have the good five inch barrel and is all original. I got a letter from Roy in 1979 and have shot the gun many times.

Good ole' TL, nothing better! They weren't produced in s/n order either, but I agree, definitely produced before 1913 with those medallion-less stocks. The use of the recessed gold plated brass medallions began in 1910.

This is a picture of the gun with the letter. It shipped to Joseph J. Hughes in 1913. The family said he was a sheriff in a south-central Georgia county for some time, but I don't know which one. At least I didn't get a shipped-to-a-hardware-store letter with it. The gun is very photogenic for some reason. It cost me $250, and that was a whole lot of money back then. It came to me through a friend of a friend of the family. I was a Dean at the college that year so I guess people thought I had the money. . .it was still a scrape for me to find it and I don't think I told my wife.

My 44 triple lock with 5" barrel and a 18xx serial number was most certainly made in 1908 but not shipped until 1913. One explanation for this was that the 6-1/2" barrel was very popular and the 4" and 5" didn't sell well initially. Gary Lynn

If you could get these old revolvers to sit down with you and give them a few shots of good bourbon, imagine the stories they could tell!!

It got a nice pair of grips shortly after I posted it over three years ago. Of course, the original grips are still with the gun. . .just not on it. I paid as much for the grips as I did for the gun almost 40 years ago.

Thanks Jim.
I think the revolver holster combination looks better with the gun in the holster. Hah!

S&W likely did the plating and may have replaced the yoke as indicated by the stars stamped on the yoke and frame. It looks like the work was done on January 25, 1963. I don't know who bobbed the hammer, though. Maybe it was done before the gun went to S&W.

You don't have to contact anyone. There are several ways to post a picture. Tutorials are in the Forum Office subforum.
