Please help me find or find similar
Im new here but have no where else to turn to. Long story short...a few years ago my wife and i were wanting to make sure our kids got all of the stuff they "needed" for Christmas. I had recently been given my dads dads k22 s/n k11068 1947 manf. I sold it to a pawn shop here in maryville tn areaAt the time, i knew nothing about the gun. I was maybe 30 or so. He told me it was a model 17 and only gave me 400 for it. I have never told my father i sold it and ive been trying to track it down but have reached a dead end. I had the pawn shop pull the serial number to see if i could locate who bought it. The man that purchased it was in his 90's and has since passed. The pawn shop will not give me the last name or any contact info but they say they know his son "Big Rich" and if they see him they would give hime my number..... it didnt sound too promising for me. If any of you guys are from this area and it rings a bell PLEASE pass this along and contact me through this forum. In the meantime im searching for a 1947 k22 in the same serial number range to "pass" as the gun if my father ever asks to see it. Im afraid he would be crushed and to make matters worse i found out it was the same gun my grandfather used to end his life...uhhggg...as you can see it has tremendous sentiment and ties to my family that i was not aware of when my wife said that we should do it to get the kids some extra stuff. That **** is long gone and so is my fathers gun. Im on a mission and any help at all would be tremendously appreciated and returned however i can.

I sold a rifle 40 years ago because I thought I needed the $$. To this day I wish I had not done that.
Good luck, I hope you are successful in finding it.

I personally think you will have a decent chance at finding that K22 and I admire you for telling the whole story. But don't feel too bad as we all know wives and kids are very powerful forces in our families and we sometimes do things we probably shouldn't just to keep an even keel at home and your dad will probably understand. But meanwhile keep after it. I'm a little surprised you can't get a bit more from the pawn shop to help you along. Perhaps you can convince the to call the son rather than wait for him to show up. Seems like the right thing to do.

Although I do still sell/trade on occasion and hind sight being what it is, take it from a guy that's been there, done that (we all prolly have) don't ever sell your guns.
Good luck with your endeavor.

Good luck looking for your gun.
If i might offer a little advise i would consider not trying to deceive your father by passing off another gun. Be truthful. Shows respect. He may be a bit disappointed that the gun is missing, but the fact you recognized your mistake and are trying to remedy it hopefully will help.
Might try the pawn shop again sometime.

While you probably won't find one for what you sold yours for, $400 from a pawn shop probably wasn't too bad. You probably got 50% fair market value or a little bit more. You could have shopped it around to individuals and gotten more, but sounds like you didn't have the time. A pawn shop is just like a used car dealer. You have to accept that you'll get less for the convenience.

Thanks for all the help and replies. Update is...the pawn shop spoke with the guy and he has no interest in selling, however i have bought a beautiful 1947 k22 piece with box and told them to tell him i would trade it to him in place of my fathers 1947. My dads is a 95% shooter and the one i just bought is a real beauty probably 98% or better (thanks bravstar1). I thought it would really tempt the guy to trade with me. The best news is it is still close by and there is still hope, but either way this journey and research has made me fall in love with the k22 and s&w in general and really transformed my way of gun collecting. I've started looking for more than high speed black and polymer. It feels like thes smiths have life.
