Default My King sighted, ivory stocked, RM/ case

Serial # 57006, shipped September 24,1938 to the National Target Supply Co. Washington, DC. The National Target Supply Co. Did supply targets for NRA events but was also a full line sporting goods store run by Col. Parker and Townsend Whelen. The RM was equipped with an 8.75 inch barrel, King red bead ramp reflector front sight, King 111 rear sight, blue finish and checkered walnut magna grips. It was sighted at 100 yards, dead center hold using 357 magnum ammunition.
I purchased this gun in 1979 from J & G Sales in Prescott, Az. They had a small ad in The Shotgun News listing a S&W RM in nice shape with ivory grips-$900. There was a 3 day inspection period so I took a chance. Needless to say I was delighted when I got the gun and it was 98 to 99%. I have had the gun for 36 years but did not have a box for it. Rather than spending $1500 for a nice "proper" box I had Marvin Huey make a custom display case with ivory accessories. I just received the box and I thought I'd share some pictures with you. Reg.#4132 as seen on the label.

Elegant!

The Huey case sets it off and will protect it for years to come. Great idea.

That's truly a modern day homage to an era that's sadly long past. The pistol and the case are both gorgeous. I hope you keep it where you can look at it and enjoy it each day.

One of the most beautiful revolver packages I've ever seen. Those ivory grips are especially outstanding. Each fathers are carved almost individually and I can see the true passion and pride in making something "right". I've never seen this level of work in any ivory grips for S&Ws or Colt SAAs and I've seen many. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Who made the Ivory Stocks? The finishing touch would be some large primer .357 Ammo.

I have a couple boxes of pre-war 357's but neither one are large primer.perhaps by 1938 they were using small primers. The six in the case are pre-war but small primers. As to the ivory,I really have no idea. They were on the gun when I purchased it and there are no markings anywhere. I have seen a similar pair on this forum at some time but can't remember when.

Bill:

I love those Huey cases... And that RM isn't bad either.. I have a couple of the Huey leather wrapped cases for some engraved guns. If I didn't have to send the guns, I'm sure I would have a few more of his cases.

Thanks for sharing,

Without a doubt that is the most impressive revolver, set of grips, tools and cases I've ever seen.

Now, I gotta ask, how does it shoot?

That is w/o a doubt two of the most beautiful items i have ever seen... The revolver is in what i would call close to "pristine condition"... That case, i don't have words to describe it... Can't begin to fathom the expertise it takes to have the talent to create such a beautiful piece...

Thanks for sharing with us...

Default Stunning!!

A couple of other posters have already used the adjective, but what else can one say? Absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing. A lovely reminder of a time in American craftsmanship that I might say had passed, but the case itself proves that American Craftsmanship still exists.

Bam-Bam Yes, all my guns are waxed. I have used Renaissance wax, but I personally like Collinite's No. 845 insulator wax. I have used it for years with great results. You can get it through Amazon.

I would think you've made your investment back on that one. This beats any of the museum pieces I've seen. The perfect long barrel RegMag package, congratulations!

Wow, that is beautiful! At the risk of offending the purists, I like that case even better than an original box. Thank you for sharing.

I met Marvin Huey once on a gun show trip with Gary Garbrecht many years back. Gary had ordered from Marvin before and wanted to leave Marvin another gun that he could more precisely fit. At that time he was working out of an older 3 story house. Reminding me of a turn of the century, old time, craftsman. He walked us through boxes that were completed in various stages of the process. I was and have remained awed of this man's work, with such perfected accuracy to find details, oil bottle, screw drive, cleaning rod. Fantastic !

Thanks to a very generous forum member I was able to secure 6 Winchester large-primer.357 cartridges for my display case. Thank you very much Kevin. 05Carbon, I do think they add the finishing touch. What's not to like about this forum?
