I am a new member. I picked this up at a farm auction in Montana a few weeks ago. Serial # dates to 1931. Grips are obviously not period correct. Serial Number has a * stamp after it. It has been reblued but do not know if factory. Shoots great with a Keith bullet and 7.0 gr of Unique with a CCI LPP. I'm not new to .44 spl's. It fits nice in a Black Hills Leather "Doc" style shoulder holster that I have.

What a way to start! You have a .44 Hand Ejector Second Model. It is worth well over a thousand dollars. These are quite rare.
Looks like you stumbled onto a good one.

Almost forgot. The stocks should be Magnas. Those are Target stocks from a much later gun.

Agreed,They should be Service Stocks for sure.As for value You would be very lucky to get $1,000 for this Gun.More like $750 or so.

Welcome to the forum, I put square frame target grips on every N-frame revolver I shoot because they fit my big long fingered hands. If you were fortunate to get the original grips it would be in your best interest to keep them if for some reason down the line you wish to part ways with your very nice revolver. A letter would sort out any questions regarding your revolvers history and its trip to the factory.
I just got interested in early hand ejectors with the purchase of a very nicely refinished model of 1937 Brazilian contract revolver. Like you I am very familiar with .44 caliber revolvers and for some reason have never paid any attention to .45acp as a revolver cartridge. Now I have been bitten real hard by the bug and find casting bullets and reloading for the .45 is taking me away from shooting my black powder rifles just a little to the point I am beginning to get guff from my dyed in the wool black powder shooting buddies. I hope you enjoy your HBH revolver, they are truly interesting pieces of history.

Kinman, I also have the BPCR bug. A couple Shiloh Sharps and a Marlin 1895 CB in 45-70 and 45-90. I also cast for 45 acp, 45 colt, 44 spl, 357, 32 win spl and 30-30. I sent off for a letter a couple of weeks ago. The 5" barrel makes it somewhat unique. I do not have the original grips unfortunately, but the target stocks fit my hand quite nicely.

I was fortunate to find a 5 inch 2nd model HE, 5 inch barrel length is not common. This one shipped in 1932.

I get the impression that you're more interested in shooting your fine .44 Special than restoring it to as-shipped form; but that may just be because my choice would be to enjoy shooting it, target stocks and all.
