Prewar Third Model HE Stocks
Pictured below is a Third Model HE, SN 482xx. Any possibility the stocks shown are period and model correct? Across the years, my overall batting average on original metal has been great; on original stocks... poor!
Thanks for info!

Prewar Third Model HE Stocks
I'm sorry to disappoint, but those stocks are not correct for a prewar third model. The following picture is a screenshot from the SCSW
The gun in the middle, labeled as a third model, has the type of stocks that are correct for your gun. The stocks on your gun, I believe are magna style stocks from around the 1950s to 1960s. I'm not as familiar with those, though they do look good on your gun.

bruner1981,
Your pic illustrates a 3rd Model Military & Police, a K-frame .38. OP's revolver is a 3rd Model Hand Ejector, an N-frame probably in .44 Special.
I agree on your assessment of the stocks as late diamond magnas.
iskra,
Betcha that 3rd Model (also called Model of 1926) is fun to shoot, no?

Wow I guess I was more tired than I thought when I made that post. I completely missed the shrouded ejector rod. This is embarrassing. Thank you for correcting me on that Larry

Iskra, the correct stocks for your .44 HE, 3rd Model, Model of 1926 are magnas like those shown off the gun below. The medallions are larger than post-War magnas and the washers will be milled into a cup, some will have patent stamping inside the cup. You might find some on here or eBay, but be prepared for sticker shock.

Wiregrassguy, Thanks for the kind information and full answer to my question!!!
Actually, if any embarrassment here, I’m the one who should be! The 44 Special Smiths are a main interest. I have a fair representation of most of the principal models from "New Century" up through 4th Gen 24-3 of the mid eighties. I basically understand the metal features. Just don’t know squat about wood such as magna grip nuances! The info provided is particularly useful and highly appreciated!
Again thanks!

I understood that over it's production life the 3rd Model 44 would have shipped with as many as 4 different stock versions: the 20's non medallion service stocks, the early 30's medallion service stocks, the pre-war magnas and the post-war magnas depending on ship date. Am I wrong?
