Default Smith 1905 Mfg date

Just did an impulse purchase, A 1905, 5" barrel.
Can't tell by the pictures weather it is a 4 or 5 screw.
Anyhow, the sn is 682005.
Can anyone tell me the mfg or delivery date.
Thanks!

I should start to research before I bid !!!
Hope it isn't a mistake.

Assuming the serial number has no letter in front of it, this gun dates to the mid- to late-1930s. That would definitely make it a .38 Military & Police revolver with a five screw frame.
It may or may not have been a mistake, depending on the condition and how much you paid for it.

Default 1905

I paid $240, it includes a very nice western holster.
I do believe it has been re-blued.
Not a collector, just a shooter!

At that price you probably did just fine. You will like how that long action feels, if you are used to shooting Model 10 revolvers (not that there is anything wrong with them, either).

SN 682005 would probably indicate shipment in 1940-41. I show several in the 682xxx range as shipping in early 1940, but also a few nearby shipping in early 1941.

Default At that price, no worries

And with a holster to boot, if the gun is mechanically sound, you got a real bargain, I'd say. If you look at the junk gun companies are selling today for $500-600-700 and more, I try to scarf up as many older K- and N-frames I can get my hands on, if the price is right. The 1905 is one of my favorites to shoot, I keep a bucket of 148 gr. full wadcutters loaded with 3.2 grains of Bullseye near the basement door for whenever I get the urge.
