I generally consider myself a Colt guy, having shot Pythons in my Bullseye and winter postal leagues for almost 20 years. I was interested in a 6" revolver for D.R. matches, as I've been encouraged to try them out, (after averaging 276 in our outdoor league this summer; I had shot 280 indoors, all with a dot.) While visiting a couple of LGS, I ran across these two specimens, a K38 Masterpiece (vintage 1952) and a 14 no-dash (vintage 1960). The Masterpiece had plastic grips, the match grips are mine. I went into this place in a whim as I was sitting out front at a red light. The 14 was kind of an impulse buy, I just liked it, and it was not expensive. So I'll be looking into appropriate grips for the big brother, or maybe I can just switch the grips from the 15.

Depending on what you paid for them you did really well! The Masterpiece is what some call a pre15. It is a combat masterpiece. The 14 no dash is really hard to find. Not many were made. It should do well in your style of shooting.

Thank you. After shooting the masterpiece tonight at my bullseye practice, I realize I would like to have a wider front sight or a skinnier rear sight blade notch. Also, this gun is much lighter than my scoped 8" Python. The trigger feels a few pounds heavier than the 7.5 # DA on the python. The heavier trigger and lighter weight gun is making DA shooting a challenge with one hand.

A lighter rebound spring, available from Woolf, will do wonders for your DA pull. It even made a fairly good DA shooter out of my 15 oz Model 638.

Roger that. I put an apex kit in my 340 PD. Big difference in feel, more than could be measured.

that 14 may make you leave the python in the safe a little more often
