Default Pre 36 From 1956

Not sure if you just call it a Chiefs special or what. It's in pretty decent condition. Put it in here because not sure What designates a hand ejector.

That's a real screamer!! I would never again get it anywhere near the inside of a holster, especially that
unlined one. Those are so hard to find in that almost pristine condition.

Yes you have a ".38 Chiefs Special" Model of 1953 New J frame, the full size version.
Also known as a pre model 36 in collector lingo. Prior to 1956 they had a 4 screw sideplate, after, a 3 screw. Likely a 4 screw since it has the 2nd style flat latch cyl release.

Hand Ejector
So called because the cartridges must be "ejected by hand" instead of happening
automatically as in the earlier Top-Breaks. If your cylinder swings out to the left, you are holding a Hand Ejector.

Actually it has the raised flat latch on one side. I have a 1961 and it's different.

There are several different versions of the latch through the 50s
That one is a gem!
