Default Prewar K-22 Outdoorsman questions

Picked up my first K-22 and have some questions about them. Mine is #639xxx which I take to be about 1931? When did the gold bead front sight end? (mine is stainless steel?) When did the 3 screw rear sight begin? (mine is 2 screw) Any other information would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

The 3 screw sight came into being in 1932----can't help with the front blade.

Just for reference, SN 639380 shipped in March 1932. I don't know what type of rear or front sight it had, as it now has a full King Super Target rib.

SN 635065 shipped in June 1931 and it has the one rear screw rear sight and a gold Call bead front sight.

Congrats on your acquisition - we'd love to see some photos.

Thanks for all the info. Sorry, tried to post photos before with no success. Am severely tech-challenged. Ron

I believe that the sight had some overlap between a gold and sliver bead. Another option is maybe you could have ordered the gun either way??

The K-22 Outdoorsman was cataloged as having a Call gold bead or Call brilliant (stainless steel disk) front sight blade. It could also be ordered with a plain Patridge front sight. Other sights were also available as my Outdoorsman letters as having been shipped with an ivory marble front sight and U-notch rear. I don't know how long these front sight options were listed, but S&W was still using them in 1941 when the war resulted in this, and other models being discontinued.

The call gold bead was standard from the start (jan 1931) until Sept 1931 when the change order was issued. I had #638xxx shipped Nov 1931 and it had the gold call bead. After the change to call brilliant, you could still order it with the gold call bead.

Mine, SN 639216 was shipped Oct 19th 1931, if that helps bracket your ship date. It has a gold bead, 2 screw rear sight.
