Smith&Wesson model 1950 44 spec
Hello, I have a smith wesson model 1950 i believe but am not for sure. Its in beautiful condition!! 99%-98% 4 inch barrel. Chambered in 44 sw special. Anyone have any idea what it might be worth?? Thanks so much for the help. Mark

Do the grips number to the gun? Do you have the box? If so I would see it going for $2000.

That's a great introduction to the forum, welcome aboard. Beautiful Pre-Model 21 circa '55-'56, if you can bring yourself to part with it I have to agree with Moosedog. Looks like collector quality for sure, far too nice for me...I shoot everything I own.

I have S143776 shipped 10/8/55 so yours is likely a little before that date. A very collectible revolver. Probably around $3K or more. Box adds a lot if you have it.

SaxonPig is right on the money. My son and I in the last week purchased a 4 in. 1950 bright blue target and a 1950 4 in military both in similar condition and as expected in 44 Special. Gave 7K for the pair and quite frankly was glad to get them.

That is one fine 1950 Model .44 Military. Mine is #S142499, shipped March 7, 1955.

Beautiful Smith.
Reminds me of the year 1981 when I came to work (part time) in a LGS. There was a Model 24 .44 spl that had been traded in the day before. I had some "Jimmy Funds" stashed away so I purchased it at the "Sticker Price" from another employee (full time). Completed the paper work and it was stored in the store safe with the paper work and receipt. That day was very busy and I forgot to take it home with me. The next day at work I went to the store safe to get my revolver and found only the paper work and my receipt but the revolver was missing. On inquiring from the full time employee that sold it to me, I discovered that the store owner had sold the .44 to a friend of his, even when He was told it had already been sold. I questioned the store owner and He admitted what he had done and returned my money. Being I had a wife, six children, and a German Shepard Dog that thought that he was a child also, I didn't push the issue as I needed the part time job to keep the wolf away from my door.

Welcome to the FORUM! Your revolver is so cool! A couple of years ago, I turned 1 down at the gun show for $565. It's condition was not as yours, and someone scratched letters & numbers next to the stocks. It ticked me off, and I left it. I was STUPID!!! It still would have been a great shooter. Howdy. I have S1426xx which shipped in April, 1955. The 1950 44 Military (pre 21) is much more scarce than the target version (pre 24). I would expect that to bring near $4K on an auction site. They are very collectible. Congratulations.

I think the matte finished postwar revolvers have leveled off or dropped in value the last couple of years, they are not keeping up with the high polished revolvers. Your revolver being a more popular 4 inch should hold its value. I think the 5 inch .44 has dropped some what.

We are a small town hardware store/gunshop and get some very nice stuff in sometimes on consignment so who knows what will show up. Thank you all so much for the good advice.

A warm welcome from Vegas also! That revolver is a grail gun in this home. I do have the modern-day 21-4 in nickel but it lacks the pizzazz and class of yours. It's round butt does not help either, and the bbl markings are reversed. Goodness gracious, the stocks on yours do not match! There would have to be something a potential buyer would criticize!
In this home, Rolexes are worn, expensive cognac is imbibed, and guns are shot. Been fighting the antis too many decades to deprive myself of the pleasure of shooting a fine gun. I envy you your fine gun and wish you well. Happy holidays.
