In June of 1946 Smith & Wesson was approached by the C. L. Clark Company about the possibility of them producing a Counter Display case. Pictured here is what I believe is the only case they produced for this purpose. The two wooden rods pictured inside the case go in the back to hold the case at an angle so you get a better view of the revolver. The was a piece of glass included with the case. It was used to cover the gun from being picked up or touched. For some reason the project was never completed. I also have all the correspondence from them to Smith & Wesson’s Mr. David Murray.

That's cool. Never seen this before.

Nice~ Nicer with all the insert openings were filled in. What would of been in the insert blank in front of the barrel. I assume the lower insert blank below the revolver would be a description and maybe the MSRP.

The barrel cut out was for a short or long barrel. If you have seen an insert for a model 41 or a 53, there are cut outs for a longer barrel.
By the way, in 1946 there were no MSRP's. remember, this is the only one and it was a rough idea these people had. The correspondence discusses ways S&W wanted things changed. I have nothing on paper as to way this never went into production.

Even in the mid-late 40'S, I can't believe dealers would want a live handgun sitting in a display case, with in easy reach of anyone who walked into the store.

It's a really neat piece of one-off Smith and Wesson, trivia.
