M&P W/LERK? value help please.
I'm not too familiar with the older 1 liner Smiths.
6" bbl, some pitting and slight bluing loss, all numbers match with sharp shoulder Magnas. Gold box in very good condition, and schematic sheet.
The box bottom shows the SN very faintly, but it matches as well.
According to my SCSW 3rd, this is a post-war M&P, according to the SN S 853105 shown in pic. However, it also states that the 1 line address on frame is gone by 1945, where this model started.
What is this really and what should I expect to pay for it?

The one line address went until 1948.
That is a nice early post war gun.
I'm not too up on them price wise but under 750 would be a great buy
750-825+ a good buy
825-900 still ok

This postwar .38 Military & Police revolver probably left the factory in November, 1946. I have one listed less than 200 serial numbers lower that shipped that month. It also has a 6" barrel.
As noted, the four line address started in 1948.
With the original box and Helpful Hints, $700 would be reasonable.
Nice revolver!

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I was reading my book wrong on the dates.
I do want the gun, but the lgs is too high according to your estimation.
Asking is $1200.00
Although the sales guy did tell me they've had it for several years, maybe I can talk them down some.

October or November 1946 should be the correct shipping date. Quite a few in the S843xxx-S854xxx range shipped during that time period. With the correct box, I'd agree that $700 wouldn't be far off. $1200 is for suckers.

Guessing that I'm a sucker. Just from the little bit that the pics show, with the correct box I'd toss a grand on it. And then I'd wait for about ten years while it rests comfortably in the safe. But thats just me.

I would be a buyer in the $700 - $800 range and may possibly go $850. If they've had it for several years, have cash in hand and open up negotiations at $650 - $700 and go from there.

It'll need to wait til after the New Year, but I was planning on walking in with $900 and start @ $700.
Who knows what will happen.
