I have S&W 38 M&P revolver. I am trying to identify the model and cannot find any information. I know it is definitely pre 1980. The seriel number is C 1835XX.
Can anyone help with the year or value?

Can't help on the value as you didn't post any pictures, but that SN would suggest it shipped around early or mid-1952. It is indeed an M&P model. The Model 10 didn't come along until 5 or 6 years later.

1. Condition. Top dollar comes from collectors but they want guns that are like new in the original boxes. Value drops quickly with wear to finish.

2. Box? Accessories? These add a lot.

3. Barrel length? As the barrel gets shorter the higher the value goes.

4. Scarcity? Is it rare? An M&P from the early 1950s is not rare. It's a great gun, a classic and everyone should have one, but not rare.

My totally non-expert guess on a 4" M&P in 90% condition without the box would be around $350 give or take. More if condition is higher. More if barrel is shorter. Less if there is more wear and less if there is more barrel.

Others will say something different. We're all guessing.
